Phoronix IRC Log: 2009-10-13

Kano: michaellarabel: is 8.67 not 9-11?
Kano: i mean in the review of 5xxx it is wrong
Kano: also i would compare the ati cards against gts 250/gtx 260+275
lolren: hi all
lolren: ye Kano u got a point.....
lolren: i too would like to see that comparation
Ranakah: hi all... anybody know how work ubuntu 9.10 with radeon 1950 pro?
wirechief_: Ranakah you just missed Kano he left 4 mins ago, he is very up to date with ATI stuff :(
wirechief_: but maybe someone else can answer your inquiry
Ranakah: ok
wirechief_: im not sure what your experience is with phoronix but it is a good resource for graphic cards and tricks to make them work with linux, you can check out the forum at www.phoronix.com
wirechief_: also there is another good channel #radeon for the radeon driver that works with ATI
Ranakah: tnx you very much :)
wirechief_: I have an ATI 1300 and 3650 but i know that the ATI driver is very difficult to get working in linux
wirechief_: in experiementing with it you can end up with a black screen with no display so you need to know how to handle that too.
Ranakah: hehe yap... i try sometimes and i get only black screen :)
narugawa: hi
narugawa: just a big thanks for the awesome job on my favorite website ;-)
redeeman: Ranakah: the ati closed driver no long works on anything older than 3xxx, use the free radeon driver, which supports your card
Ranakah: redeeman free radeon driver support 3d too?
redeeman: yes
Ranakah: and where i can get this drivers?
redeeman: either way, you have no choice
redeeman: its in ubuntu by default
redeeman: you need not install anything
Ranakah: okay tnx for info :)
wirechief_: redeeman does he need to apt-get install radeon to use the radeon driver ? ( i have ati1300 with similar needs)
redeeman: i would imagine it would default to 'radeon'
redeeman: though theres a slight chance it might use radeonhd instead
wirechief_: i guess dpkg -l |grep radeon should show me (checking)
wirechief_: it shows the radeon
wirechief_: thanks
neyz: Hello world :)
neyz: anyone had results with kwin desktop effects and new radeonhd ?
