Phoronix IRC Log: 2009-09-24

Kano: hi, is somebody using u 9.10?
Kano: without nvidia binary i have got 100% load on one core
Kano: tested live iso only
EvilGuru: Kano: #ubuntu may get you a better response
Kano: EvilGuru: or too many noobs ;)
EvilGuru: What does top tell you is using the CPU?
EvilGuru: Window manager have been known to do dirty things with certain driver/wm combos
Kano: Xorg 100%
Kano: vt are blocked too
EvilGuru: I remember having this a while back
EvilGuru: problem was with the EDID data from one of my monitors
Kano: if thats not a big fault then i dont know...
EvilGuru: the nvidia driver got very pissy about it
Kano: the nvidia binary works fine
Kano: i can install it using my script
Kano: with a little trick like
Kano: DISPLAY= sudo nohup sh install-nvidia-debian.sh
EvilGuru: Ah, so it is a problem with the Ubuntu packaged version
Kano: even in live mode when vt are blocked
Kano: by default the nv oss driver is running
Kano: did you try mplayer vaapi with the reflect effect
EvilGuru: I've never used a device with VAAPI
Kano: but you have got nv?
EvilGuru: My two higher-end cards both support VDPAU, which IMO is a better long term solution
Kano: well vaapi has a vdpau-video wrapper
Kano: http://kanotix.com/files/fix/mplayer-vaapi-latest.txt
Kano: my script checks for the vdpau header
EvilGuru: But, mplayer has direct VDPAU support
Kano: if there it compiles vdpau-vaapi
Kano: i know that
Kano: but you can try then
Kano: mplayer -vo vaapi:gl:reflect -va vaapi
Kano: the same mplayer can use vdpau too
EvilGuru: I know, but my copy of mplayer isn't compiled with VAAPI
Kano: btw. 64 bit and intel onboard same Xorg 100% fault
Kano: 32 bit intel is fine
EvilGuru: Now that is interesting
Kano: EvilGuru: my script does that, forget the .txt endig, it is a sh script
Kano: just that you can see the content i used .txt
Kano: tested with u live even
EvilGuru: is on Gentoo
Kano: therefore you see those universe/mulitverse hacks
Kano: well i will not provide ebuilds ;)
EvilGuru: Probably isn't too hard
Kano: its not hard
Kano: you need libva first, then vdpau-video and then mplayer with vaapi patch
michaellarabel: bkero: Do you know when you will be able to fix gnupg test profile?
bkero: michaellarabel: Working on it now
michaellarabel: nice, thanks
intok: Anyone else here?
