Phoronix IRC Log: 2009-09-10

Ivanovic: michaellarabel: no news so far that xf86-video-ati 6.12.3 is out?
Ivanovic: (yes, i know that this is just a marginal bugfix)
Kano: michaellarabel: did you disable turbo boost in bios for your i5/7 benchmarks?
Kano: i see no real reason to benchmark those cpus with disabled tb
Kano: as thats the real thing which does speed em up
Kano: try povray with and without
shamm: hi all
shamm: ASRock NetTop ION 330
shamm: is it any good and does it have built in wireless
johannes_: hi, does someone know, if suspend to ram works with fglrx or the radeon driver?
dandel: which video card?
johannes_: 785 IGP
dandel: which distribution?
johannes_: ubuntu 9.10
johannes_: or fedora, but Id prefer 9.10 for various reasons
dandel: considering your using the 785 igp, if you must use radeon, switch it to radeonHD driver.
dandel: also, check to make sure that their is nothing within the dmesg log which hints to any sort of crash before you suspend, and check again after suspend.
johannes_: I cannot do that, it will be used for a diskless mythtv frontend
dandel: check this out before you make the system diskless.
johannes_: I see, I first thought you meant Id have to do that every time
dandel: i always run the tests before going diskless.
johannes_: why would you take radeonhd instead of radeon? arent they very close?
dandel: radeonhd is meant for the newer cards.
dandel: radeon is aimed at the radeon x1000 series or lower.
johannes_: thx
dandel: and if you can, run the fglrx driver seeing as how it'll have better performance most likely, at least until the open source drivers catch up.
