intok: Any way you guys can get a hold of the best of cards for the R400 and R500 series for a test of the open source drivers vs FGLRX 9.3 on a current high end system? By this I mean use the X850XL PE and the X1950XTX as these are the fastest of their generation cards which also have a wide difference specs wise in potential performance, so it'd be nice to see them paired up with the fastest Intel and AMD systems you have access t
bkero: what
intok: I mean for a phoronix article, instead o the x800 ant the x1600 see if the fastest of the series cards can be dug up for a test of the most recent releases of the open source drivers, as far as the wiki states the r500 drivers still have some issues with textures though, while the r400 on down don't
bkero: Neither the R500 or R400 are anywhere near testing territory in terms of 2d performance.
intok: bkero yet last year they did do a gaming test with the only somewhat functional 3d
bkero: Why don't you do it and submit the results?
intok: bkero currently fail at funds till at least this fall... hardware grant ftw!
bkero: A cheap r400/500 card is what? $30?
bkero: I'm sure someone has already benched both of those cards in the phoronix test suite, go cherry pick some records.
intok: bkero actually due to their high initial cost they're fairly rare in comparison to a value or midrange card, best bet though would likely asking in an overclockers forum to see if they know anyone selling them through heatware
bkero: x1950xt's didn't vary from XTX's at all besides some firmware differences. More aggressive timings on the RAM chips and clockspeeds. Easy to flash.
bkero: and x1950XT's are cheap
bkero: and plentiful
bkero: Also, I'm sure someone already submitted test results. Go cobble together some graphs.
intok: x1950xtx also used gddr4 the x1950xt used gddr3
bkero: That they did
bkero: Well, good luck.
Eosie: hi, i'd like to compile and test r300/gallium, do you have any idea what repositories and branches i should pull to get it working?
Eosie: btw, I have Ubuntu 9.04
darthanubis: http://pastebin.com/d7429ed12
darthanubis: why?
darthanubis: After a fresh install the test no long wants to run
Deanjo: looks like you wiped out the hidden executables
darthanubis: How could I wipe out something that was never there? It is a fresh install?
Oli``: I want an arseload of redundant (safe-ish) storage. I can't afford a dedicated RAID card (unless there's a really good cheap one out there) so I'm looking at mdadm (software raid). I'm considering 4 disks in either RAID10 or RAID5. I know I'd get a disk worth's more space in RAID5 but I'm concerned about the mdadm performance for RAID5. That said, I've not seen how slow or otherwise RAID10 is under mdadm. I've only used it for RAID1 before. Any advise?
maligor: anyone in need of Heroes of Newerth beta keys?
