Ivanovic: michaellarabel: http://www.botchco.com/agd5f/?p=45
Ivanovic: a nice list of "what is available regarding powermanagement on radeon chips"
michaellarabel: Ivanovic: Yep, seen that, thanks though.
michaellarabel: schestowitz: Did you end up trying out AdBard?
slaine_: michaellarabel: just downloaded a3 to test on SnowLeopard
slaine_: fyi, seeing this in the console
slaine_: Warning: Wrong parameter count for is_dir() in /Users/glen/Downloads/phoronix-test-suite/pts-core/library/pts-functions_tests.php on line 955
michaellarabel: whoops, thanks slaine_! I started working on some code but didn't finish it and evidently left it in Alpha 3 release. But it's no problem.
michaellarabel: is the hardware detection (phoronix-test-suite system-info) working fine with Snow Leopard?
slaine_: let me check
slaine_: Looks ok, d53dbb5d8
slaine_: gah
slaine_: http://pastebin.com/d53dbb5d8
michaellarabel: hmmm, the disk is slightly off though. I don't care to see all those bytes reported. hmm
michaellarabel: wow, Snow Leopard still using old X Server?
slaine_: yup, 1.4.2
slaine_: At least gcc as bumped up a little
michaellarabel: ugh, not good enough... I would like to see at least GCC 4.3 in there
slaine_: yup, me too
slaine_: Hmmm, wonder can any of these tests be built against llvm
michaellarabel: slaine_: Good question. pts-core supports LLVM detection, but I haven't tried using it for any tests.
schestowitz: michaellarabel: yes, I'm on em :-)
michaellarabel: How are you liking it schestowitz?"
Kano: hi michaellarabel , just updated the pts kanotix package
michaellarabel: thanks kano
Kano: did you ever try flashrom yourself
Kano: i tested the -r (read) option on 4 boards and 1 -w on one
Kano: but i flashed a standard firmware on an oem board and it does not like to boot now. others who do the same usually have got more luck
Kano: michaellarabel: you should use always -p when you use mkdir, it updated gtkperf and worte an error message because of mkdir
schestowitz: michaellarabel: so far, so goof
schestowitz: *good
schestowitz: michaellarabel: Google ads merely paid the hosting fees. We got DDOSed (almost 2 weeks now... still going in bursts) and moved to dedicated, so I hope to pay the hosting bill with these ads.
michaellarabel: I see
schestowitz: newspapers are dying.
schestowitz: This gives a form of indication where publishing goes as an activity worth of compensation to writers. Writing, to a large extent like code, becomes commodity.
schestowitz: My point of video is that if writings promote something like PTS or enable some artists to perform in public, then the idea of having incentives to write remain. I do it for fun.
Kano: michaellarabel: is it possible to get an opensource mini server solution
Kano: for pts
Kano: sample implementation
mether: michaellarabel: gnote has replaced Tomboy for Fedora 12 FYI
schestowitz: \0/
schestowitz: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Fedora_12_Alpha_release_notes#GNOME_2.28
schestowitz: https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-desktop-list/2009-June/msg00003.html
DGMurdockIII: hi
maligor: c++ port of tomboy huh
maligor: mether, I wonder why they didn't use vala
DGMurdockIII: what would be a good all in one media player for netbook running linux a eeepc 900 runing eeebuntu
mether: maligor: vala - the author is more familiar with C++ being a Abiword developer
maligor: mplayer's popular
mether: maligor: you can ask him directly if you need more info
maligor: vala's much nicer to write than gtkmm, heh
mether: maligor: depends on what you are more familiar with
maligor: I doubt too many people are familiar with vala
maligor: being a completely new language
mether: well if you know C# vala is not hard to pick up
mether: its very similar
mattmatteh: anyone around that could help me figure out what is wrong with cpu scaling on my amd ? when enabled the whole computer crashs, bios and all
Kano: mattmatteh: oc?
mattmatteh: Kano, no. infact the opposite. trying to get my cpu slower when not in use
mattmatteh: i am just really stumped to how the the bios gets corrupted/trashed
mattmatteh: i dont know if its a linux bug or something
Kano: mattmatteh: did you enable c1e or so
mattmatteh: but soon as i start stepping the cpu freq, reboot, sometimes the bios wont boot, ill get a buzzing sound, and then it resets itself
mattmatteh: Kano, i dont know what that is
mattmatteh: Kano, i do recall seeing options for that, and acpi 2.0
mattmatteh: but why would those not be enabled by default
Kano: mattmatteh: maybe replace board
mattmatteh: and if those were not enabled, would that still cause a crash ?
mattmatteh: i would think it would cause the cpu not to change freq ?
mattmatteh: Kano, well, i started tech support with asus
mattmatteh: this is the second board, first was a gigabyte
Kano: thats definitely NOT normal
Kano: maybe your cpu?
mattmatteh: Kano, well, i can have 30 days uptime
mattmatteh: and have it under load and do what ever
mattmatteh: could it still be the cpu ?
Kano: mattmatteh: in powersave mode the cpu gets lower volatage
Kano: maybe that leads to problems
mattmatteh: Kano, i thought it was just the freq that changed ?
Kano: nope
mattmatteh: 2.5 Ghz -> 1.0 Ghz
Kano: the volatage is lowered, otherwise you dont need to do that
mattmatteh: i dont exactly follow that, but ok
mattmatteh: Kano, and this is the second board i have
mattmatteh: the first was a gigabyte
mattmatteh: that randomly locked up
mattmatteh: after 3 days
mattmatteh: 1 ~ 3days
mattmatteh: returned that, and got the asus
Kano: maybe its the cpu
mattmatteh: this doesnt have the uptime problem, but both boards have had the bios crash
mattmatteh: and the x86 arch bios is really lousy, so i thought nothing of it
mattmatteh: but still very annouing
mattmatteh: annoying
mattmatteh: and i read about bios bugs all the time
Kano: yes bios can be buggy for acpi tables, but less common since vista does not allow drivers to fix those tables
Kano: so basically v did something good too ;)
mattmatteh: Kano, i dont understand what vista has to do with this ?
Kano: mattmatteh: xp allowed the install of special drivers for powersave mode. that used several laptop and caused problems for linux
mattmatteh: Kano, i still dont understand how thats relevant here ?
Kano: well you can only disable the voltate lowering in your bios
mattmatteh: Kano, so you are suggesting that i might try disabling the voltage lowering when scaling ?
Kano: seems that does not work
mattmatteh: is more confused now
Kano: whats the name of your board
mattmatteh: asus m3n78-em with amd 4850e 2.5 Ghz
Kano: latest beta bios?
mattmatteh: Kano, i have not dont any bios updates
Kano: stupid
mattmatteh: i looked in to that once
Kano: update it
mattmatteh: i didnt see anything in the change log that suggested it would fix my problem
Kano: lshal|grep firmware
mattmatteh: and with the bios problems i have had, i stay as far away from it as i can
Kano: mattmatteh: not all changes are logged
Kano: the only fix can be a bios update
mattmatteh: Kano, my experience so far with this has been very traumatizing
mattmatteh: there have been several times where i almost dragged this to the trash
mattmatteh: and thought about going back to my p3 @ 797 mhz ( its stable)
Kano: i did so last night, but basially with high risk flash, from oem to standard ;)
Ivanovic: michaellarabel: no news about the new LGP offer with "renting a game" (as well as download versions)?
mattmatteh: Kano, that gives a dbus error
Kano: mattmatteh: not on my system
mattmatteh: Kano, trying to get the bios version ?
Ivanovic: (IMO it is interesting and the prices offered at tuxgames are interesting, too, 2.5$ for a week of sacred of 5$ for a while month sounds rather reasonable to me)
mattmatteh: Kano, does dmidecode do that ?
Kano: mattmatteh: can do
mattmatteh: Kano, version 0415, date 09/16/2008
michaellarabel: Ivanovic: Meeting with a German all day. Will post news soon. Had quite a few Optimators :P
Ivanovic: :)
Deanjo: hmmmm http://www.tomshardware.com/news/Flash-Player-Adobe-Nvidia,7954.html#xtor=RSS-181 <---flash with vdpau support coming in the future?
ognirc: night ladies
mattmatteh: Deanjo, i suppose its possible the power supply could be causing problems. i still doubt it. you talked about cool down. there is no cool down, unless it can during a reboot. the computer is on 24/7
