Phoronix IRC Log: 2009-05-25

zhick: i get "Fatal error: Class 'GtkStatusIcon' not found in /home/henning/phoronix-test-suite/pts-core/options/gui_gtk.php on line 55" when I try to run the pts (2.0 alpa2) with gui... but php-gtk bindings are installed?
Kano: michaellarabel: did you ever test pxe booting
Kano: just updated my script to allow mixed 32 + 64 images to boot fine too...
Kano: does anybody like to test
Kano: michaellarabel: how about adding support for pts=option1:1,option2:2,option3 kernel option parser
Kano: the syntax should be like comma seperated options, incl. way to skip-tests, maybe something like
Kano: pts=userconfig:http://server/user-config.xml
Kano: too to save all settings into an xml file
Kano: then you could even autostart pts and it would do everything automated
Kano: you have to parse /proc/cmdline
Kano: then you boot your testimages via pxe, prepare all settings and then you get the results from every pc after a while, without user interaction
michaellarabel: Kano: Why would you want to autostart PTS like that when you can use Phoromatic soon?
Kano: michaellarabel: i like pxe booting, added the same for gl2benchmark
Kano: even when you automate it in your way you would need to be able to configure your server which is to be used somehow
Kano: last thing would be good: a private pts server to submit results
Kano: especially good for testing
Kano: i see no reason to submit test runs to global pts
Kano: but collected on my own server it would not hurt
michaellarabel: Kano: Phoromatic has private Global capabilities
Kano: michaellarabel: i prefer on my OWN server
Kano: no login or whatever
Kano: thats nice for users which do not want to setup that on their own, but i would prefer another solution
Kano: you only upload a base64 encoded file to a hardcoded url, that should be easy to replace
Kano: just add a var
michaellarabel: Kano: Phoronix Global isn't open-source at this time and Phoromatic for intranet installations is only available to enterprise customers.
Kano: michaellarabel: i guess it would not be so hard to implement something similar without user database
Kano: you only have to store the result.xml files and parse em
michaellarabel: Kano: You're free to write your own
michaellarabel: if you do it right, you could get it done in like 15 loc.
Seeker`: is an intel c2d E5200 powerful enough to do 1080p without VDPAU?
redeeman: probably not all clips
redeeman: though its close
redeeman: i'd suggest E8400 or E8500
redeeman: its not really a big price difference
Seeker`: its > 2.5x as much on ebuyer.com
redeeman: ah
redeeman: its 2x here :P
redeeman: but its still not too much
Seeker`: i'm wanting to build a new mythtv box, but have seen reports that VDPAU screws up the EPG
Milyardo: michaellarabel: It seems quite a few people have taken to writing their versions of Global, I was talking about to some of the guys in #ubuntu-us-mi the other day
michaellarabel: Milyardo: Why do they want their own Global?
Milyardo: For automating benchmarking, one guy told of a PXE image that be boots into, it then emails him the results of the benchamrk
michaellarabel: Milyardo: Of PTS he's using?
Milyardo: yep
michaellarabel: Ah interesting. That feature is actually in Phoronix Global
Milyardo: very cool
Milyardo: Yeah the subject of PTS came up when we were talking about interesting people to invite for Penguicon 2010
Milyardo: and you were one of the people they thought about inviting
Seeker`: does anyone have any opinions on the Asus P5N7A-VM
michaellarabel: Milyardo: What else did they have to say about PTS?
rainbyte: hi
Netham45: I've been lurking on your forums, and noticed some information about hacking splashtop to run custom programs. I have a Lenovo Ideapad S10 with Splashtop on it, and I'm trying to get rdesktop and xchat running on it. The only hack I can find(involving using the help document and page info) seems to have been patched in the version of splashtop I have.
Netham45: Anyone know of any other ways?
Netham45: Does 'Kano' frequent this channel?
GNU\colossus: yes
Netham45: k, would you happen to know when he's on? He seems to be the one who knows the most about splashtop on the forums.
GNU\colossus: Netham45: I don't know when he's usually online, but he's here quite often, actually
Netham45: GNU\colossus, he's actually active in #kanotix.
Netham45: right now.
GNU\colossus: oh, awkward :)
Deanjo: http://dev.compiz-fusion.org/~cyberorg/2009/05/15/beryl-back-from-the-ashes/ <---- this is really turning into a bloody soap opera
kothog: the radeon 4890 review for 3d performance under Linux mentioned that there were dual dvi outputs on the card but didn't say anything about whether dual display was supported/worked. has phoronix done any testing in this regard under Linux?
Deanjo: Not on the 4890 specifically. On ATI driver reviews yes
Deanjo: Using the blob's it should work
Azerthoth: Deanjo read that article, I think the comments section pretty much sums it up ... moron, dont like some of the options dont use them, if you dont use them they dont take resources
Azerthoth: to paraphrase
