BoeB: is there a possibility to tweak linux to get heavy flash sites in firefox running smoother?
Kano: michaellarabel: do you want to push out a2 now
Ivanovic: BoeB: complain to adobe for their proprietary flash not being well optimized
Ivanovic: or better: complain to the websites for using flash instead of making them "normal" websites that just work
Kano: have got running 2.6.30rc7 iso image, would be nice addon, dont you think so
Kano: anybody wants to try?
Kano: with english menu entry, combined 32+64
BoeB: Ivanovic: o.k., thanks
Deanjo: Anybody in here want to try out susestudio? Got some invites left to the service
Kano: invites?
Deanjo: Ya, it's in closed beta right now
Kano: does it use 2.6.30 yet
Deanjo: an invite will give you access to it. You can add what ever repo you want. So yes it could use 2.6.30 if desired from the KOTD builds
Deanjo: I can send ya one kano, if for nothing else just to check it out
Kano: well i just build my own 2.6.30rc7 "beta" ;)
Deanjo: Well I patch mine to say 2.6.49 :P
Deanjo: wins :P
Kano: well it shows -6, but git pull .. master was used to update latest bits
Deanjo: You see my little benchmark with aligning USB partitions Kano ?
Kano: what do you mean with align?
Kano: does suse studio allow hybrid iso start?
Deanjo: http://www.phoronix.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17243&page=2
Deanjo: Hybrid as in allowing 32 bit and 64-bit versions?
Deanjo: on the same iso
Kano: no hybrid iso is when you can cp the iso onto usb stick and it is bootable
Deanjo: No, but it can build for usb/writeabledrive, iso, or vm image
Kano: well i prefer to build one for all ;)
Kano: with a little script you can even use pxe boot
Deanjo: Pretty sure PXE boot has been standard affair on suse for quite a few years now
Kano: i checked serveral distros
Kano: only ubunut had network modues in standard initrd
Kano: therefore you always need special builds
Kano: thats stupid
Kano: just because of a different initrd. those few modules do not hurt anybody
Deanjo: http://en.opensuse.org/SuSE_install_with_PXE_boot
Kano: i know how to do that
Kano: but kanotix can be booted live from pxe
Kano: with the same iso
Kano: no extra install server needed
Kano: maybe a little bit faster than booting from usb, but usb is already fast
Deanjo: Ahh, ok. Hardly ever mess with PXE.
Kano: but could could boot a full classroom with pxe
Deanjo: Well seeing that you can add your own configs files to susestudio builds you should be able to do that as well I suppose
Kano: well i will not use suse now ;)
Kano: i like my own system
Kano: kde 3.5, efficient, fast...
Deanjo: Heh, how dare you support your own project. That's total bias. :P
Deanjo: Yes I agree with you 1000% that KDE 3.5 is the best desktop environment out there. Fast, stable, feature rich.
Deanjo: It's like a fine wine, just gets better with age :P
Kano: well i test kde4 too
Kano: but it has still the same errors
Kano: with keyboard layout switching when more than 1 is defined
Deanjo: I've got the latest 11.2 Milestone build for suse and unlike previous openSUSE development builds it's actually usable lol
Deanjo: Could have something to do with my "If you want people to test the development builds, stop releasing them in a unusable broken state" rant on the mailing lists :D
Deanjo: Sounds like pulseaudio may be dropped as default in 11.2 now as well :D
Deanjo: It really pisses me off when distro's slap in shit as a default when it's clearly not ready
Kano: well pulseaudio is used over lan i think
Kano: therefore they have to support it for terminal server solutions
Deanjo: I'm not saying not to have the packages. Just don't have it default installed
Deanjo: Make it optional
Kano: well that would be better
Deanjo: Suse also has their indexer installed by default as well. That may become optional as well.
Deanjo: Slows down old machines too much
Kano: yes, only very few ppl need that desktop search
Kano: i never installed the optional update with win search bar too ;)
Deanjo: That's why I like susestudio, it allows me to "decrapify" and put in the "grey" packages. :D
Deanjo: lol, winamp is such a piece of shit
Kano: i like amarok 1.4
Deanjo: Ya, as do I
Deanjo: Just checked out winamp for something to do. Haven't really used it since ~ 2.7 days
Kano: i used winamp 2.x or so, but not later
Deanjo: Ya I switched to coolplayer once Winamp 3 hit for windows
Deanjo: heh, remember that shitty Winamp linux port?
Kano: xmms?
Deanjo: No actual winamp
Deanjo: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/audio_software/audio_players/winamp_for_linux.cfm
Kano: some loved it,but now audacious is a good replacement
Deanjo: ewww that would mean GTK :P
Deanjo: Almost as bad as banshee :D
Kano: well some have so many mp3s that creating the database would take ages
Kano: then they want a tiny player only
Deanjo: I used to like old alsaplayer
Kano: not me ;)
Deanjo: Hmmm, alsaplayer is in bad need of some TLC development
ognirc: ooOOOoo thunderstorm
ognirc: :O bbl
ech0s7: but ati catalyst for ubuntu are differents from other linux distribution ?
ech0s7: because i have read that some ubuntu users haven't problem with catalyst and 'slow resizing'
Kano: michaellarabel: thx, will package the a2 now
Kano: do you know why u did this in the rules:
Kano: chmod +x $(DESTDIR)/usr/share/phoronix-test-suite/pts/distro-scripts/install-pclinuxos-packages.sh
Kano: it does not even use debian packages as base...
michaellarabel: Kano: where is that?
Kano: in the rules of the 1.8.1 package
michaellarabel: oh the one on Phoronix-test-suite.com?
Kano: in karmic
Kano: and jaunty
Kano: err only in karmic
Kano: jaunty has 1.6.0
Kano: just wanted to see if they adopted the menu icon
michaellarabel: Kano: I didn't know PTS 1.8.1 was even in Karmic. I thought it still was on 1.6.
Kano: http://packages.ubuntu.com/karmic/phoronix-test-suite
michaellarabel: I am pushing for 2.0.0 to be in Karmic
Kano: do i need still the lang overrides, well will try without
Kano: but i guess i force lsb-release and time as depend, otherwise your tool has too many problems
michaellarabel: Kano: you sholdn't
michaellarabel: for LANG overrides, should be in since 1.8 IIRC
Kano: will try
Kano: who is wupperman?
Kano: from the copyright file
michaellarabel: Kano: Wuppermann is a partner on PTS
Kano: no first name?
michaellarabel: No, that's his alias.
iamtechno: Has anyone heard anything about a linux demo (or a windows for that matter) of Rage?
Azerthoth^: on any freeway near LA
iamtechno: Or Portland tomorrow night
iamtechno: Azerthoth, but seriously and news?
iamtechno: Azerthoth, *any
Azerthoth^: nfc
Kano: michaellarabel: which icon now? before it was pts-core/media/pts-icon.png': No such file or directory
michaellarabel: change media/ to static/
Kano: well gtkperf works without override
hax0r1337: How come all tests in PTS require ia32-libs?
hax0r1337: Also 'No downloading application available.
hax0r1337: The MD5 check-sum of the downloaded file is incorrect.'
michaellarabel: hax0r1337: It does when on x86_64 Linux
michaellarabel: hax0r1337: What distro are you using?
hax0r1337: michaellarabel: Hi mike, archlinux
michaellarabel: Do you not have wget or curl installed?
hax0r1337: michaellarabel: wget
hax0r1337: curl also
michaellarabel: where are they? Not in PATH?
hax0r1337: They're in the $PATH
hax0r1337: weird...
michaellarabel: It should detect it then
hax0r1337: michaellarabel: Hmm, I never wrote in php, can you tell where I can find the code that looks for wget or curl?
hax0r1337: Also is there a way to enable debugging messages?
hax0r1337: I got it to work, php.ini had to be tweaked
