Deanjo: hmmm, weird, restarting alsa causes my soundcard to make a sound from it like a relay switching
Deanjo: From the actual card not the speakers
michaellarabel: Deanjo: Back now
Deanjo: What happened?
Deanjo: You didn't try to emulate me and burn down anything did ya?
redeeman: why was it you burned down stuff?
Deanjo: Thought it would cure my boredom so I burnt down the kitchen a few months back
Deanjo: Did a real good number on my hands back then too http://s30.photobucket.com/albums/c316/deanjo/?action=view¤t=hand.jpg
Lightkey: ugh
Deanjo: Ya sitting on the throne presented problems back then :D
redeeman: i myself prefer not to burn down too much
Deanjo: heh, chicks dig bandages though :P
redeeman: are you sure?
Deanjo: Hey it got me out of shovelling snow for a few months :D
redeeman: my wallet gets me out of shovelling snow for all months
dmb: hello
dmb: so in ubuntu 9.04, fglrx will not work for r500's now?
Deanjo: hmmm, sweet deals on Phenom II 940's in the states http://techreport.com/discussions.x/16768
coucouf_: hi, I was curious how radeon and radeonhd 3D performance and application support compare
coucouf_: any plan to publish such a comparison ?
Deanjo: There are many such comparisons already on the site
Deanjo: Just read any of the ATI card reviews
coucouf_: maybe I wasn't clear enough but I'm talking about radeon vs radeonhd drivers
coucouf_: they both support 3D acceleration for R500 hardware, but this came recently
coucouf_: So I won't find those numbers in the R500 reviews which are now old
Deanjo: lol "NVIDIA has now managed to make it nearly two weeks before issuing a new Linux driver update. "
Deanjo: They could release daily and wouldn't have a complaint from me. It gives some reassurance that their stuff is actively maintained.
SlickMcRunfast: is the new notification system that Canonical made going to be cross DE
maligor: the what?
superdump: cross desktop environment i guess
superdump: i.e. usable in xfce, kde, gnome, twm...
superdump: :)
Deanjo: xpde FTW!!! :P
KingOfTheBongo: xpde?
Deanjo: http://www.xpde.com/
KingOfTheBongo: lol
Deanjo: xpde > sliced bread
Deanjo: :D
Deanjo: VistaDE > all :P
SlickMcRunfast: so a xp clone
SlickMcRunfast: creative
SlickMcRunfast: n
dmj726: why would one want an xp clone?
SlickMcRunfast: because they miss the crashes, viruses and spyware
SlickMcRunfast: they need something to remind them of the old days
dmj726: XP's window manager is terrible compared to current gnome.
dmj726: (just an opinion), but everytime I use XP, I end up with a mess of scattered windows.
Deanjo: Imho gnome has to be the most fsck unfriendly ui there is
dmj726: obviously preference comes into play. There are some things I like about KDE
dmj726: *note* a lot o the things I like "in gnome" are actually the productivity-enhancing parts of compiz
