Phoronix IRC Log: 2009-04-15

Kano: michaellarabel: just testing install-all, encode-flac did not compile, i guess missing depends
Kano: dl is extra slow, especially when you use idsoftware urls, that server is slow
michaellarabel: Kano: Yeah, id servers always slow
Kano: michaellarabel: wine-unstable is not in install-all?
michaellarabel: it should be
Kano: michaellarabel: just triedto use install-all on debian 5.0 32 bit, but it does not like to autoinstall the build-deps, why not
michaellarabel: If you type: phoronix-test-suite install-dependencies all does it work?
Kano: no
Kano: system-info does not mention debian
Kano: OS: 28?
michaellarabel: It reports the OS as 28?
Kano: yes
michaellarabel: What is the lsb_release -a output or ls /etc/*-releases
Kano: no such file
Kano: you could check for kanotix ;)
Kano: the 64 bit had lsb-release installed because of ia32-libs which need it for whatever reason
michaellarabel: I do no distribution-specific checks
Kano: those files do not exist
Kano: only kanotix-version would be there
michaellarabel: /etc/*-version is also checked
Kano: welly you get OS: 28
michaellarabel: in which /etc/ file do you have 28?
Kano: no idea
Kano: could be the timecode of kanotix
Kano: Kanotix Excalibur 20090401-02:08
Kano: on th other system there is 28 at the end
Kano: also i need a function which only prints the debian packages to isntall
Kano: as depend
Kano: or maybe 2, one that shows already installed ones too and one that only shows mssing
Kano: also it can not be that hard to add a time executeable check for the byte benchmark...
Kano: there are certainly missing depends, even when you use install-all (i installed lsb-release to get rid of the error, but i would like not to have to do that)
Kano: vdrift seems to need svn/aclocal, will give you a log when all is done
Kano: also that game seems to crash fglrx
Kano: and that pc* suite is not listed when you use list-suites
Kano: why not?
michaellarabel: the pcqs suites? They need to be installed first
michaellarabel: you can do like: phoronix-test-suite install pcqs-sdfdsfsdfdsfdsf to just get the suites to download initially
Kano: ah
Kano: why not preinstall it
michaellarabel: Because PCQS doesn't ship within the PTS tree
Kano: next thing: when i use make-download-cache then i get 7.8 gb download, but pts writes 9.5 gb
Kano: as you store sizes + md5sums, something is wrong calculated
Kano: vdrift crashes on finish
Kano: with fglrx
Kano: did you notice that
michaellarabel: I think I recall that
Kano: why didnt you tell ati to fix that crap
Kano: until ati fixes it do not run that test when fglrx is found
Kano: as it breaks all suites containing it
Kano: add a hack
mether: michaellarabel: ping
michaellarabel: Hi mether
mether: michaellarabel: hello
mether: did you get the installation going with the snapshot releease?
mether: i was wondering if you were still planning on doing something on btrfs
michaellarabel: I hadn't tried with the snapshot release. I did try out the LiveCD, but no installation. IIRC, you can't install Btrfs using the LiveCD?
mether: nah
mether: live cd is just a image dump
michaellarabel: right
mether: you cant choose packages, filesystem etc there
mether: you either need to install the live cd leaving some free space
mether: and do a post installation format
mether: or use the dvd image but we didnt do a snapshot of the dvd image
mether: so can wait till the preview release
mether: if you really want to know how the installer works
mether: but there isnt much magic there to see
mether: just a menu option that gets enabled if you pass the right phrase
michaellarabel: I've spun my own ISOs before, but it's been a number of releases ago (I think maybe FC4 timeframe) so I'll just wait around for the next release.
mether: if you leave free space during installation
mether: you can do mkfs.btrfs on that after it
mether: thats what i did
mether: grub doesnt support btrfs or lvm anyway
mether: so you need a separate /boot
mether: michaellarabel: oh btw, the game developer refused to work on encouraging free artwork
mether: michaellarabel: so that game wont go into the mainstream distributions (not in the primary repos anyway)
mether: michaellarabel: have you heard of Gnote?
michaellarabel: Gnote? I don't believe so
mether: it is a port of Tomboy to c++
mether: just made a couple of releases recently
mether: it is available in the Fedora 10 updates-testing repo and in rawhide (I maintain it)
evocallaghan: michaellarabel:Hello?
michaellarabel: hi evocallaghan
evocallaghan: michaellarabel:You didn't say anything about AUX in your mode loading aritical :( !!
evocallaghan: s/mode loading/kernel mode setting/
michaellarabel: evocallaghan: I wasn't sure whether I should since I didn't know if Sun would then figure out you were the one that said it was coming to OpenSolaris.
evocallaghan: haha, I don't care about that..
evocallaghan: what are they going to do? sue me :)
evocallaghan: It will come to AuroraUX before the OpenSolaris distro any way!
michaellarabel: let me know soon as it hits AuroraUX and it should be heavily looked at it
evocallaghan: michaellarabel:getting there with replacing them nastly closed source parts in libc :)
evocallaghan: michaellarabel:toy features are not a major priority of ours.
evocallaghan: michaellarabel:you still can't build the opensolaris distro without binaries from Sun you know !
evocallaghan: its not 100% opensource
evocallaghan: AuroraUX will b
evocallaghan: e the first to be fully buildable outside the Sun firewall
evocallaghan: unless there is something we don't know about :/
