Phoronix IRC Log: 2009-04-07

michaellarabel: Is phoronix.com loading very slow?
Ivanovic: it is slower than usual, yes
michaellarabel: k
michaellarabel: now hopefully she is back to normal
Ivanovic: yeah, looks good
Ivanovic: what was the problem?
michaellarabel: Not sure, there were like 700~800 people on the forums when usually there is only like 100~200 this time of day, so I think maybe a bot attack, but I restarted MySQL and HTTPD and now its fine for now.
Kano: hi michaellarabel , do you think the leading spaces cause the problem with res
michaellarabel: Kano: could be, not sure
Kano: michaellarabel: i would like to have got a fixed package before upload...
Kano: michaellarabel: btw. when you try thorhammer, then you could easyly verify that issue
Kano: the older kanotix iso
michaellarabel: Kano: link
Kano: or the old pts image
Oli``: Anybody know anything about CPUs dropping in price in the next few weeks?
Kano: michaellarabel: some checks fail with md5 check then i run the run command from the i7 test
Kano: php 5.2.5 for example
Kano: that file does not exist
michaellarabel: Any besides php 5.2.5?
Kano: still installing
Kano: i installed a pure kanotix 64 lenny
Kano: and will run those tests
Kano: the 2500 screen res is a bit high for my 1680 monitor however ;)
Kano: basically only build-php is missing
Kano: i used a dlcache however
Kano: for lots of files
Kano: http://global.phoronix-test-suite.com/?k=profile&u=kano-628-6932-9485
Kano: parallel bzip2 is really interesting...
mattmatteh: michaellarabel, i was looking at the corei7 review and was thinking it would be nice to see that compared to other cpus
andrnils: so was I. Numbers are just that, without perspective. I would also love to see a test of OpenSolaris build >= 110 on i7 too.
Kano: michaellarabel: i think you see the benchmarks which did not run
mattmatteh: not just cpus, but anything like graphics, mainboard.... it helps to have a comparison
Kano: michaellarabel: http://global.phoronix-test-suite.com/?k=profile&u=kano-628-6932-9485
mattmatteh: like i was searching for my amd64 months ago
Kano: but one thing is much faster with my q9300
mattmatteh: perhaps someone wants to know what the better deal is
mattmatteh: corei7 or amd64
Kano: parallel bzip2
Kano: 31s here, your i7@3600 had over 100s
Kano: i see no compressfile however...
Kano: something must be wrong with that profile
Kano: btw. i use the symlink setting of course
Kano: hmm you create a random file
Kano: drystone test did not run because of a not correctly set flag or so
Kano: bbl
vadi2: not sure if it's relevant, but some cloud os desktop thing launched today: http://icloud.com
vadi2: unfortunately it promptly crashed firefox when I tried it. go go java on linux
Kano: michaellarabel: did you look at the pts issues yet
michaellarabel: Kano: Not yet, been very busy
Kano: also it is a bit bad when you basically would have to use beta 2 to bench against the i7
Kano: because you can not even download it directly
Kano: the new nexuiz profile seems to show much slower fps than the one before
Kano: michaellarabel: how about writing an url checker
Kano: it seems you always test against a cache, and therefore urls get outdated and you do not even know that
mwme: Kano: contribute code :)
Kano: mwme: i can not change already done results, i just dont get why 1.8 beta2 was used for testing and now for example you can not compare nexuiz
Kano: compile benchmarks are not that good to compare anyway between distros
Kano: but games usually are
Kano: ok, my gfx card is slighly slower, could oc it a bit
evocallaghan: michaellarabel: Hello ?
evocallaghan: I got a update on KMS as you requested.
Kano: evocallaghan: kms with solaris?
evocallaghan: Kano:We are forking opensolaris and opening up the closed bits
