Phoronix IRC Log: 2009-02-28

michaellarabel: Kano: Next time you pull from Git, let me know if you can Edit > Preferences or if it seg faults...
Kano: ok, will check
michaellarabel: For some reason it seems at least on Ubuntu when using GtkComboBox, sometimes it's seg faulting in PHP
Kano: segfaults too
Kano: but i guess you could see that with a live image in vbox or so too
michaellarabel: Makes no sense why it's seg faulting....
chain_: hello
michaellarabel: Morning chain_
Kano: did you test any of my new hybrid iso images
chain_: I don't know if that's of any interest to you, but I did some testing of different browsers on linux, the results were quite surprising, because Safari 4 beta on wine turned out to be faster than native linux browsers
chain_: you can have a look at the results here: http://pastebin.ca/1349551
chain_: I know that sunspider is basically designed for webkit, but the results in google v8 benchmark weren't much different
Kano: michaellarabel: it even segfauls when i try to un ramspeed for example
michaellarabel: Yes due to GtkComboBox there
Kano: do you still requrie time? or does the build in one work now
Kano: i mean the time package
Kano: i guess for ubuntu it would be a depend for dash as sh
Kano: just dont know if you use still the binary on all systems
michaellarabel: Kano: No, time shouldn't be used since I think PTS 1.4.
Kano: ok, what do you use now?
michaellarabel: PTS has its own OS-independent timer mechanism
Kano: ok, will drop that depend then. when you do your next working alpha snapshot ;)
Kano: that combo box fails always it seems
Kano: would it work with an older php-gtk version
michaellarabel: On one system here it seg faults all the time, but with my laptop it seg faults once in a while
Kano: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/p/php-gtk/
Kano: maybe try pbuilder on that one
Kano: to compare
Kano: the packageing seems to work only with 64 bit
Kano: but that would be an older version
Plouj: has anyone tried the asus eee 1000he with linux here yet?
Kano: thats standard atom, nothing special
michaellarabel: Kano: I might have come up with a way to circumvent the seg fault
Kano: in git?
michaellarabel: not quite yet
EruditeHermit: hey, what is required to get openGl 2.0 with the intel driver?
EruditeHermit: what versions of the driver, mesa, kernel etc are required?
maligor: mm, don't think any pure mesa drivers have 2.0
maligor: but I might be wrong
EruditeHermit: I thought that it was a new feature of the driver
maligor: oh yeah.. I suppose it might be possible intel had it
maligor: since it had those new managers
michaellarabel: Kano: pushed to Git
Kano: will try
Kano: no diff for me
Kano: segfaults
Kano: latest git pull
michaellarabel: Hmm
michaellarabel: working here every time for me now
Kano: check with live image in vbox or so
michaellarabel: Just made some more changes and now it's back to seg faulting for me...
michaellarabel: Kano: If you use your Git from earlier, does running like Nexuiz from GUI work where there are combo boxes in other spot
Kano: err how to runit with git earlier?
michaellarabel: I mean from your git right now
michaellarabel: not rechecking it out
Kano: will try
Kano: with last checkout it segfaults
Kano: it seems still be up2date
Kano: you changed something but still does not run
michaellarabel: what do you mean
Kano: well git pull updated 5 files
Kano: but nexuiz does not run yet
michaellarabel: if you pull again should be a lot more
michaellarabel: preferences still not work either?
Kano: btw return option is broken too
Kano: missing argument
michaellarabel: what return option?
michaellarabel: oh, for when u select a test?
Kano: preferences do work now
michaellarabel: oh wait, I disabled GtkComboBox in preferences right now
Kano: i tried 7zip compression
Kano: then used return
Kano: missing arg for gui
michaellarabel: I see it now
imemine: just bought a GA-EP45T-DS3R (review at phoronix a couple of months ago... http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=gigabyte_p45_mobos&num=1 ) and now I'm trying to install intrepid on it
imemine: only, I ca
imemine: n't get the cd to boot
imemine: trying to boot from a dvd drive connected via the ide interface
imemine: does anyone know if it should be possible to boot from a drive via the ide connector?
imemine: has anyone had any similar problem with the same chipset/bios... or any other for that matter?
Erektium: did you set it so that it boots from the cd? boot options in bios
imemine: yes
imemine: enabled the ide interface and set cd to primary boot device
imemine: and the cd works perfectly on another computer
imemine: but it seems it doesn't recognize the drive... or at least is unable to boot from it
imemine: (the drive appears in the bios settings but I get "unable to boot from cdrom")
chain_: maybe the cd image you downloaded was borked?
chain_: oh, sorry, you said that it worked on another computer
imemine: yes :(
chain_: are you sure that the optical drive is fully functional?
imemine: it was a while since I used it but yes, it should work
chain_: make sure that it does work
imemine: but it's either something wrong with the drive or the mb can't boot from ide devices
imemine: or maybe there is some setting that needs tweaking in the bios... thought I can't for the life of me figure out what that should be
chain_: you can install ubuntu from usb drive
chain_: checking bios settings should have been the first step
imemine: I don't have one here right now though
imemine: yes, I have checked the bios settings and read the manual... but can't find anything that should help for booting from the ide interface besides the settings I have already changed (enable the ide interface and change boot prio for cdrom)
chain_: too bad they don't provide linux on floppy disks anymore...
imemine: I don't have a floppy either though ;)
Kano: michaellarabel: no changes in git anymore?
michaellarabel: Kano: just manually refreshed the server
Kano: now preferences crash
Kano: return option still does not work correcty but does not write an error
Kano: you basically start the gui 3x to the one which is displayed already when you press on return instead of continue
Kano: nexuiz also crashes
Kano: maybe ask in #php-gtk if they know why it crashes
michaellarabel: It crashes from a seg fault when GtkComboBox is made
Kano: maybe there is a fixed code available, did you try cvs?
Kano: or the older version to compare
Kano: will check the older version
michaellarabel: Thanjs
michaellarabel: Thanks*
Kano: michaellarabel: thats interesting, it does not crash with 2.0.0
michaellarabel: I see
Kano: will upload that then
Kano: for a new created iso no problem, will use that direcly, otherwise downgrade
Kano: if you use my repo just uninstall php5-gtk2 and install it again
Kano: is it possible to upload without saveß
Kano: michaellarabel: http://paste.debian.net/29478
Kano: looks weird
Kano: pts ran from cli without lang override
Kano: just like when you would boot live mode with german ;)
Kano: same error for all tests it seems
Kano: LANG= override would do btw
Kano: Average: 2128,24.00 MB/s
Kano: thats what i mean
Kano: with override it would be 2128.24
Kano: michaellarabel: i guess you can add: de_DE.UTF-8 UTF-8
Kano: to /etc/locale.gen, run locale-gen and use
Kano: LANG=de_DE.UTF-8 override
Kano: to see it
Kano: did you try?
