Ivanovic: wow, new xorg release
Ivanovic: so lets see how long it takes till an fglrx compatible with it is available...
bkero: Someone feel like trying out an ebuild for me?
Ivanovic: depends on "what for"
raevol: Ivanovic: think the open source driver will beat fglrx for xorg 1.6 support? heh
bkero: Ivanovic: pianobar. A command-line pandora client
Ivanovic: raevol: uhm, that is no question at all, the open source driver is always compatible with the xorg release
raevol: hahahahaha i see
Ivanovic: that is: even in "bleading edge" also known as git head
raevol: well, just gotta hold out for r700 3d support in -ati then
Ivanovic: where there will be no support for fglrx once a little changed in the api
Ivanovic: guesses that the 3d branch will be merged back "rather soon" into xf86-video-{radeonhd,ati} as well as into the drm package
raevol: we'll see, i hope you're right
Ivanovic: that is: until then you can compile yourself xf86-video* from the r6xx-r7xx-support branch, as well as this branch from mesa/drm (the kernel module)
raevol: does that have 3d accel?
Ivanovic: at least video acceleration is already implemented IIRC
raevol: hmm
Ivanovic: that is: Xv as well as "normal" 2d desktop acceleration
Ivanovic: that is: the 2d performance in michaellarabels benchmarks was already better than fglrx in many cases (and this is an earlier version of the driver, more than a month old): http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=amd_r700_2d&num=1
raevol: cool, yea hardware specific drivers are only interesting to me for 3d acceleration, but maybe that's because i don't know enough
Kano: hi michaellarabel , did you change the desktopfile?
Kano: also added time as extra depend now...
Kano: who did test the gui feature of pts yet?
Kano: i hope i am not the only one ;)
rainbyte: hi
Ivanovic: 7me celebrates the merge back of r6xx-r7xx-support to master
Ivanovic: michaellarabel: any idea when it will be merged back in radeonhd?
Ivanovic: s/back/in
michaellarabel: Not sure off hand. I would find out, but I am working on a new benchmark at the moment.
Ivanovic: is looking forward to those benchmarks
michaellarabel: No, it's working on making VDrift work as a benchmark. Not EXA benchmarks.
Ivanovic: ahhhh, i see
Ivanovic: michaellarabel: i think i have not understood the concept correct, or why is r6xx branch moved to xf86-video-ati but not mesa/drm, is there any reason behind?
michaellarabel: It's moved into drm-next, since that's where development is going on now
Ivanovic: that is right in the kernel tree or is it at freedesktop, too?
Ivanovic: 14:41 #dri-devel: < agd5f> woot!!! r7xx triangles!
Ivanovic: JIIIIIIHA!
Ivanovic: argh, looks like i am tired, getting excited about ancient chatlogs...
Ivanovic: michaellarabel: question: http://www.botchco.com/agd5f/?p=40
Ivanovic: "I just merged the R6xx/R7xx EXA/Xv code to the master branch of xf86-video-ati. It’s disabled by default."
Ivanovic: is it "disabled" by a configure flag, or because there is no drm driver by default?
sadiq_: someone in the #nvidia channel mentioned this page with some good video benchmarks for linux : http://unigine.com/download/ .... could they be added to the test suite???
Ivanovic: uhm, they are already in pts
sadiq_: really???
sadiq_: hmm
sadiq_: how could I miss them then??
Ivanovic: unigine-sanctuary - Unigine Sanctuary [VERIFIED, NON-FREE]
Ivanovic: unigine-tropics - Unigine Tropics [VERIFIED, NON-FREE]
sadiq_: must be because of the long time I tried pts :(
sadiq_: well...I'm glad thy're in anyway :)
Ivanovic: it is already in there for a *long* time
Ivanovic: i think it was added in 1.2
sadiq_: then I must have missed it :(
Ivanovic: looks like
Kano: hi, does anybody like to test a live image with pts preinstalled? lots of ram would not hurt ;)
Kano: bye
