Wyatt: So I have an HD2400 (RV610). Is there any open driver that has decent acceleration on this chipset yet? I'm open to installing from git, if necessary.
floo7_: has some1 a quick hint how i can get my cdrom to play audio through the analog/digital jacks on the back of the drive and not ide+sb?
chain_: hello
michaellarabel: Hi chain_
chain_: michaellarabel, wow! It's a great honor to be able to talk to you! :D
raevol: oh wow i never knew about radeonhd.org
chain_: have you heard that NetBSD is starting a Desktop project?
Azerthoth: easy to catch up with michaellarabel, (and he's a nice guy *blatant sucking up*) you should try catching up with drobbins sometime, that can be a trick
michaellarabel: chain_: Yes I have. I look forward to seeing their progress.
chain_: I've been recently re-reading Ubuntu vs. OpenSolaris vs. FreeBSD benchmarks and I thought that I'd like to see NetBSD added to the mix - I know that their NetBSD Desktop project is in very early stages of development, but that would definitely show NetBSD's potential as a desktop system
raevol: chain_: do you know what WM they intend to use?
chain_: raevol, Gnome
raevol: :(
chain_: I think that it's a good choice, not because I like gnome more than KDE, but because both DesktopBSD and PCBSD use KDE as their default desktop environmet
raevol: xfce needs to get picked up by more distros
chain_: raevol, I agree, but using Gnome as a default desktop env will make it easier to switch to xfce or lxde while retaining pretty tight integration
raevol: true
chain_: I also think that benchmarking NetBSD would show if NetBSD's philosophy of having clean and well written code translates to measurable gains in performance(in comparison with linux and FreeBSD)
michaellarabel: chain_: I hope to benchmark NetBSD when they actually spin a desktop ISO
chain_: I'll be looking forward to it!
rainbyte: hi
chain_: rainbyte, hi
rainbyte: ちゃいん_
rainbyte: sorry, chain_ how is going?
chain_: everything's nice and dandy :)
rainbyte: hi
GNU\colossus: how can I query Xorg's loaded graphics driver(s) at runtime, without resorting to parse the logfile?
