susikala: does anyone have problem posting at the forums, or is it just me?
susikala: problems*
susikala: specifically, when I hit "submit reply", it takes a while, and then it offers me to save the php file oO
Erektium: 'mkay
susikala: I'm even more weirded out by the fact that if the reply is short (just a few words), it works (at least the "preview post" option)...
rainbyte: hi
Xemanth: michaellarabel: excuse me sir but you have many typos in the latest sapphire radeon hd 4670 gddr4 article
michaellarabel: Xemanth: is there? I had typed it quickly while on a plane like two weeks ago.
Xemanth: it says in many pictures radeon hd 4870 gdd4
Xemanth: gddr4
Xemanth: notice the 4870 =)
Xemanth: for example http://www.phoronix.com/data/img/results/sapphire_hd4670_gddr4/1.png
Xemanth: hd 4830 gddr3 double faster than hd 4870 gddr4 =)
michaellarabel: Oops, for the graphs. Bad typo
Xemanth: it was quite amusing to see how 4870 is so much slower :]
Xemanth: http://www.phoronix.com/data/img/results/sapphire_hd4670_gddr4/7.png hmm how is it possible that 4830 is slower than 4650 and 4670 :o
Xemanth: very odd
maligor: 4830 has a slower core
maligor: lower clock that is
maligor: but yeah, weird graphics :P
Xemanth: yeah
Xemanth: i think i'm going to buy some day hd 4670
Xemanth: when uvd2 is in action
Xemanth: when i can use it with mplayer
Xemanth: then i'll buy that card =)
Xemanth: probably never
Xemanth: before that i might fall to the dark side (nvidia)
maligor: if nvidia makes a x86 cpu, I wonder if they'll reveal the instruction set to that
redeeman: oh you can bet it's gonna be secret
Xemanth: i would really like to buy that sapphire's 4670 with gddr4 but i just fear that amd again pisses to my eye :(
maligor: not that fglrx has some very specific issues but I can live with them
susikala: man, radeonhd on hd3200 is really nice
susikala: xv works like a charm
susikala: somewhat teary, but excellent
maligor: the radeonhd r6xx/r7xx branch has the vsync fix I think
susikala: I can now play 1080p videos with the non-mt branch of ffmpeg
redeeman: that's inconsistent - how can xv work like a charm, and be excellent, if it tears?
Xemanth: susikala: do you use fglrx, xf86-video-ati or xf86-video-radeonhd ?
susikala: well. before I used the experimental code, I basically had to use x11 with mplayer-mt. no other way to watch videos (other than using fglrx)
susikala: and with fglrx, I had the choice of using xv (teary video, fast, no need for mt) or gl which was slow as hell (even with mt)
susikala: now I get xv with radeonhd, so basically the state of fglrx in dec 2008
redeeman: but if it tears it's still useless
susikala: only teary. once they fix the tearing, it'll be perfect
susikala: I can watch videos. it doesn't tear so horribly you can't watch it. I'm a patient person XD
maligor: susikala, I thought they fixed tearing already
maligor: I haven't tried it th
susikala: tearing was fixed I believe a few months ago in radeon, and not for hd3200 (wasn't even supported back then)
susikala: or rather, reduced, as far I remember the phoronix article
maligor: oh, yeah, radeon
maligor: http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver/xf86-video-ati/commit/?h=r6xx-r7xx-support&id=8e9ef8ff581892cbe1b7ea56d48b9a1abd70179d
susikala: if you a fast somewhat teary xv after a little over a month after the specs were release, the driver'd probably get awesome by jaunty
susikala: you get*
susikala: released*
susikala: I appreciate the work, and I'm glad I bought ati :P even though when I bought it the specs weren't even released and I thought "shit, I bought this awesome mobo with a phenom, and I can't watch 1080p videos decently"
susikala: does nvidia even have a future on linux now? XD
susikala: maligor: didn't bridgman say the patch was the same patch?
susikala: if it is and radeon offers me no more features, then I'd rather use something lighter
susikala: although... well, if it boils down to almost equal performance, I couldn't care much less
susikala: hmm...
susikala: I'll try radeon too, tomorrow
cxo: itching so bad for the r700 3d driver
raevol: same
Milyardo: \o/
raevol: \o\
raevol: /o/
redeeman: mwuahahaah
redeeman: the avr32 is booted
raevol: man, so many times i type things out in irc, and then delete them and google them instead
redeeman: ~ # uname -a
redeeman: Linux avr32.kaspersandberg.com 2.6.27.6.atmel.1 #1 Thu Dec 18 14:57:28 CET 2008 avr32 unknown
cxo: atmel isnt that an old arm board?
cxo: or mips?/
cxo: forgets
redeeman: it's a third architecture
redeeman: avr32 is made by atmel
cxo: whats a 3rd architecture?
redeeman: well.. i just meant, it's not arm nor mips
cxo: ok
cxo: whats it good for?/
redeeman: it's very low power, and somewhat cheap
redeeman: by default runs 150mhz, has dsp functions and stuff
redeeman: http://www.antratek.ie/images/atmel-atngw100_1970x1398.jpg
redeeman: that's the board i got
cxo: lower power, and cheaper than ARM?
redeeman: don't know, i suspect it's probably same lowpowerishness
redeeman: as for cheapness, i don't really know the prices for bulk buy
cxo: looks nice
redeeman: but that board can be gotten as cheap as ~$75
cxo: whats the port on the end?
redeeman: it has serial, 2 ethernet
redeeman: and usb
redeeman: and shitload of gpio ports
redeeman: which supports various pheripehrals like i2s, i2c, spi etc
redeeman: and it has sd slot
redeeman: and it runs linux
redeeman: (comes with it by default)
cxo: nice
cxo: makes for a nice router or robot controller
redeeman: the default linux runs NAT router
redeeman: and has samba/ftp server
redeeman: and webserver
redeeman: lol
redeeman: i just boot from the sd card :D
cxo: i want a little board too
cxo: but i want some sort of graphics accelerator on it
redeeman: for what purpose?
cxo: for playing videos
cxo: i was looking forward to the via+nvidia board, but it looks like its canceled
cxo: and now nvidia is pushing some gay atom board called ion
cxo: did you know that ATi has one of the biggest divisions for that sort of stuff, but they never sell to the public
Milyardo: michaellarabel: You're article is very confusing
michaellarabel: Milyardo: Which one?
Milyardo: How does a 4830 out perform the 4870?
michaellarabel: Milyardo: Read note on page 3
Milyardo: haha Okay, didn't even read the first 3 pages, just skipped striaght to the graphs
Milyardo: XD
mib_f47zew: michaellarabel: I noticed a big problem with your GDDR4 article
blue_koala: I'll take a chance at assuming that it's supposed to be a 4670
blue_koala: Rather than a 4870
blue_koala: Because if a 4830gddr3 beats the crap out of a 4870gddr4......... then I don't want a 4870
blue_koala: lol
cxo: did you read the entire article?
cxo: its already stated why
Milyardo: The 4830 is a nice card though, and about the same price as the 4670 on newegg
Milyardo: I don't see why you wouldn't buy the 4830
cxo: i wonder how it works with the open source driver
cxo: Hey i've never been able to get the catalyst driver to work, do you think it could be because i flashed the card with a different bios?
cxo: card works fine in windows and with the open source driver
