Phoronix IRC Log: 2009-01-29

sloggerkhan: anyone know... can mplayer-vdpau play 1080p on sub 1920x1080 res displays? I have a 1080P file that doesn't show video and I'm trying to figure out if it's the file or the playback mechanism.... all my other videos are 720P and most of them work with it fine (though not all)
redeeman: michaellarabel: you should write in the articles that the nvidia drivers are beta or prerelease drivers.....
Erektium: http://ati.amd.com/products/catalyst/betatester.html
mitsarionas: so anyone tried catalyst 9.1 yet?
kkuno: mitsarionas, I'm upgrading the kernel, then I'll install it
mitsarionas: it doesn't seem like something to party about though... :( I hoped I could use xv with compositing but I get lock ups
carldani: michaellarabel: just a heads-up: flashrom 1.0 will be released some time early next week if everything goes according to plan. You'll get a mail about it once the last 1.0 feature is added.
michaellarabel: carldani: Great, thanks. What day is it most likely to occur on?
carldani: michaellarabel: before that, testing may encounter quirks which don't belong in a 1.0 release ;-)
carldani: michaellarabel: I hope for Monday or Tuesday, but we want to release a flashrom live cd as well to make usage even easier
carldani: and the live cd release is slated to happen together with flashrom 1.0 for better effect
carldani: (barring unfortunate circumstances which can always happen if you develop on real hardware)
carldani: there's a small writeup about flashrom available: http://lizards.opensuse.org/2009/01/21/flashrom-utility-for-linux-part1/
carldani: of course, we flashrom developers are available for questions as well
carldani: michaellarabel: you'll get a mail with advance warning once we know the exact release date.
michaellarabel: Okay.
Kano: michaellarabel: any problems with server?
michaellarabel: Kano: My admin is working on it right now
Kano: pts is on another server it seems
michaellarabel: Yes
michaellarabel: No
michaellarabel: Finally! The server seems to be back to normal.
Kano: is there something wrong with phorogit combined with the forum?
Kano: as every link shows an empty commit
michaellarabel: Not sure
Kano: and some old videos are posted as new
cxo: sweet direct3d through vbox!
BlueKoala: :D
dubious: ppl!
dubious: can someone tell me which driver to install for a palit4850 on ubuntu 8.10, i got one from the ati site but video flickers
dubious: anyone?
BlueKoala: Hehehehe
BlueKoala: Video flickers you say? :P
BlueKoala: Try unchecking "flicker my video" from CCCLE
