Kano: michaellarabel: a correction for your nv driver article: 180,173+96 driver support xserver 1.6 without ignoreABI, 71 driver does not support xserver 1.5+
Kano: but 96 worked before using ignore abi
Kano: like the others (exept 71)
Kano: michaellarabel: did you manage to boot moblin from usb stick on another system? here it does not init usb that fast,so root fs is never found
The_Rebel: how do i skip mirrors with wget?
The_Rebel: while downloading these test suites
The_Rebel: also whats a good multithread app/game i can use for benchmarking?
michaellarabel: The_Rebel: Skip mirrors for what?
michaellarabel: The_Rebel: For multicore CPU, graphics-magick is great
The_Rebel: most of these mirrors are slow..
The_Rebel: and there seems to be more than just one mirror..
michaellarabel: Open ~/.phoronix-test-suite/user-config.xml and set to PromptForDownloadMirror tag to TRUE
The_Rebel: ty
Deanjo: is out of action for a while. House fire left his hands in poor shape. http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c316/deanjo/1233030384.jpg
Ivanovic: WTF?!?
Ivanovic: you ain't serious
Deanjo: ya I'm serios
Deanjo: 1 finger typing for me
redeeman: that looks really really fucked up
Deanjo: ya, thankful for morphine
Deanjo: get skin grafts next week
michaellarabel: Deanjo: Wow, sorry to hear that. How bad was the fire?
Deanjo: confined to the kitchen
michaellarabel: So did that happen when grabbing something on fire or what?
Deanjo: bumped a pot of hot oil on the stove
Deanjo: splashed on my hands and then flames
michaellarabel: wow
Deanjo: left hand is the worse, right just has 2nd degree around the thumb area
Deanjo: finally have use for touch pads :D
michaellarabel: How long until your hand will be healed?
Deanjo: Well, that depends on the plastic surgeons eval on Monday. Ifskin grafts are needed about 2-3 months. If not they figure about a month until I can start using it.
GNU\colossus: omg, hope you get well soon deanjo
Deanjo: thanks
mattmatteh: Deanjo, you just burn one hand ?
Deanjo: It happened on Sat, first day they had both hands completeky wrapped which really sucks. Even ordinary stuff like the washroom or putting on socks becomes impossible.
Deanjo: Both hands, right hand is just around the thumb
mattmatteh: thinks the washroom is the scary part.
mattmatteh: wonders if he has a gf to help out
Deanjo: Heh, got the wife but they send out a nurse every day to change the bandages
mattmatteh: ahh, better :P
mattmatteh: but that hand looks bad :(
mattmatteh: from the pic
Deanjo: Ya, at least the wife gives me the baths :P
Deanjo: Never took drugs before but man that dilaudid is potent stuff
Deanjo: OS X's speech recognition is coming in handy.

Kano32: look at glx version...

BlueKoala: Kano: How appropriate would Kanotix be for a linux novice?
Kano: well in case of problems i can help you
BlueKoala: lol
BlueKoala: Ok, what about minimum recommended hardware?
Kano: 256 mb ram, 4 gb hd (absolutely minimum if you want to install it onto usb drive)
Kano: a real hd install boots from usb that way, not live mode
BlueKoala: I see
Kano: but 8 are better
BlueKoala: Yeah, once I do some cleaning up, I'll use my A64 3500 1gb/Geforce 6600 to play around with
BlueKoala: I'll try out Kanotix
BlueKoala: Hopefully it will be a positive learning experience ;)
BlueKoala: But that will also require me to install Windows on my main system for games :(
BlueKoala: I can get most the stuff working in Wine
BlueKoala: But unfortunately Left4dead doesn't play well under wine
Kano: with nvidia?
BlueKoala: They removed dx8 support
BlueKoala: dx9 isn't all that great under Wine
BlueKoala: The game lags
BlueKoala: chop chop
Kano: i never played that game
BlueKoala: It's like Counter strike, except with less guns
BlueKoala: And it's a Zombie apocalypse
Kano: kanotix provides the latest wine on release day usually
BlueKoala: Nice!
Kano: also nvidia+fglrx scripts updated minutes after i know of a release
Kano: (ok those scripts work with debian + ubuntu too)
BlueKoala: I've lurked on phoronix long enough to know that ;)
Kano: best use manual partition mode with an already prepared partition
Kano: michaellarabel: i guess your bot got confused with another article with the same name
michaellarabel: Which article?
Kano: http://www.phoronix.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12355
Kano: that what you get when you click on discuss
Kano: http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=NzAyMg
michaellarabel: oops, due to same name
Kano: i would have called nvidia driver with official opengl 3 support
michaellarabel: Fixed
Kano: because it reports it even with glxinfo
Kano: before you could only look for the extension
Kano: well the comments link is still wrong
Kano: i guess your bot creates a new topic and does not look at resulting page but seeks for the topic and then hardcodes the link
Kano: bye
Milyardo: BlueKoala: You may want to invest in a new card
Milyardo: its true DX9 is a more costly in WINE than windows
Milyardo: but the mid range 8 series Geforce cards should be able to run Left4Dead fine
Milyardo: and the 8 series are all relatively cheap now
Milyardo: *they should be able to run them fine under WINE
SlickMcRunfast: has left for dead in wine been improved?
SlickMcRunfast: It was terrible when the demo came out
