Kano: michaellarabel: please use: ftp://spec.it.miami.edu/dist/gpc/opc/viewperf/unix/SPECViewperf9.0.3.tar.gz
Kano: as default download url
Kano: thats fast, everything else is crap
Kano: same url for specviewperf 10
Kano: well faster, 230 instead of 30 kb...
Kano: 2000 would be real fast ;)
Ivanovic: michaellarabel: maybe worth a short news post? http://tirdc.livejournal.com/23805.html
Kano: hi michaellarabel
michaellarabel: hi kano
Kano: did you see the patch to get rid of the config override?
Kano: maybe a solaris check is possible, do you have it running or osx?
Kano: if that works with one of those options
Kano: it also changed the first dl url, at the same url would be the version 10 too
michaellarabel: With specviewperf9? Yes that's pushed
Kano: could be added to the other profile
michaellarabel: I haven't tried it on OpenSolaris or OS X yet for those two problems
Kano: i guess because of the override you used before
Kano: and for version 10 because of the precompiled libs
Kano: michaellarabel: ftp://spec.it.miami.edu/dist/gpc/opc/viewperf/unix/SPECViewperf10.tgz
Kano: please add that as first dl location for spec 10
Kano: what do you think of a little speed check? you dl 5s from every url you have and compare which file size was the biggest
Kano: then you use that do dl
michaellarabel: Kano: That's not a top priority for me since I use download caches here, but patches are welcome :)
Kano: YOU, but everybody else has to dl
michaellarabel: right
michaellarabel: And I haven't heard too many complaints besides spec that things are slow
Kano: wasnt there a profile for all spec tests?
michaellarabel: opengl-workstation has both of them
Kano: ok
Kano: do you have got an idea for spec10 in different sizes but the kde panel is still shown
Kano: something like a fullscreen mode
Kano: hmm you added a pdf writer
Kano: nice idea
michaellarabel: Yeah, to write result files to PDF
michaellarabel: http://www.phoronix.com/forums/showthread.php?p=58342#post58342 Beta 3 just tagged
Deanjo: You ever consider this yet michaellarabel ? http://www.phoronix.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14495
michaellarabel: Deanjo: Haven't had the time to investigate aria2
Deanjo: It would cure alot of your "file not found / mirror not responding" issues
Deanjo: Not to mention increase the download speeds
michaellarabel: Features of Phoronix Test Suite 1.6 "Tydal" @ http://www.phoronix.com/vr.php?view=13368
Deanjo: waits for the inevitable "When is the GUI coming?" in the forums
Naib: o.O
michaellarabel: The first week of February there may be a hacked-together Zenity GUI for it released ,but just because I need to do some testing for some 2.0 features.
The_Rebel: does this testing suite work on windows?
Deanjo: No
The_Rebel: :/
Deanjo: It's a unix testing suite
The_Rebel: kk
michaellarabel: Deanjo: did you ever find out a CLI way to disable the screensaver on OS X?
Deanjo: There is no way from cli
michaellarabel: That's unfortunate.
Deanjo: Ya apparently most compiled apps use wake events in their code to disable the screen saver. Essentially it doesn't disable it but just forces a wake state
The_Rebel: OS X is kinda half-assed like that..
maligor: heh
The_Rebel: no way to change the font rendering settings either!
The_Rebel: POS
maligor: The Apple Way
maligor: shiny and nice as long as you don't try to change anything
The_Rebel: word
bkero: Some wake events are nice in that if Safari is downloading a huge file, it won't let the computer sleep
The_Rebel: OS X likes to power down idle hard drives (i notice the new versions of windows like to do this as well now) - what kind of effects do long term power ups/downs have on hard drives?
Deanjo: OS X will spin down or keep them spinning depending on your powersave settings
Deanjo: Same with windows
Deanjo: Also, if you were to believe the hd manufacturers, the effect of spinning up and down drives has no real effect on a drives expected lifespan
bkero: I think he was referring to the time-based caching that spins the drive up after it's been spun down.
rvalles: just seen the btrfs 0.17 announce
rvalles: compression -> nice!
rvalles: zlib's the wrong choice of algorythm, however. LZO'd be a much better option.
bkero: Now if they can only handle disk-full conditions..
Milyardo: just bought a new case
Milyardo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811144133
Milyardo: What do you guys think of it?
