Deanjo: Btrfs For The Mainline Linux Kernel <---- oh dear, cue the Jade spam
Kano: hi Deanjo
Deanjo: mornin/afternoon/evening
Kano: hi redeeman ,did you try vdpau yet
redeeman: nope
Kano: but it so cool ;)
redeeman: i just don't see the "cool" in it, remember, i already have 1080p h264 decoding capability
Kano: well 2.4 ghz are not enough for some peaks
Kano: the standard mplayer does not use threads for decoding anyway,so dual or quad does not matter
Ivanovic: uhm, no problem here on a c2q 9300
Ivanovic: that is 2.5ghz intel
Ivanovic: that is: no problem with any of the free fullhd vids i have found so far
Ivanovic: (using kaffeine with xine backend)
redeeman: those tend to be alot less difficult to decode
Ivanovic: redeeman: i don't care at all about the blueray and hddvd with a shitload of drm crap
Ivanovic: so all i can use are those free vids
redeeman: i didn't say drm'ed material ;)
Ivanovic: and they work without further acceleration from the gpu on my box
redeeman: more like.... liberated bluray material, if you get the idea :P
redeeman: and my Q9450 can do those
redeeman: so i have no need for nvidias stuff either
Kano: it wont hurt ;)
Kano: Ivanovic: do you use fglrx?
Ivanovic: Kano: yes
redeeman: Kano: well.. im not so sure about that.. didn't you mention some sort of thing that forced you to restart X ?
Kano: redeeman: well bad ts streams
Kano: but mkv is fine using mplayer
redeeman: but ffmpeg handles bad ts streams
Kano: well not really, but the display does not corrupt at least ;)
Kano: kaffeine crashes
redeeman: i have played plenty of corrupted ts streams in kaffeine
Kano: live tv?
Kano: with bad signal qualitiy h264?
redeeman: not h264 ts
redeeman: mpeg2
Kano: well i mean h264
Kano: usually you can have that problem only with dvb-c
Kano: as for dvb-s(2) you have a direct connection from lnb to card - no amp or whatever inbetween
Kano: that leads to much better signal quality
Deanjo: wonders how long until Jade does his usual Reiser spam on filesystem articles
Kano: Deanjo: until r4 is merged ;)
Deanjo: lol, ya that will happen after Reiser gets a retrial and is found not guilty
Kano: or he buys namesys and renames it to jadefs ;)
Deanjo: Oh Lord help us if that ever happens
Deanjo: The code would be commented with links to Nazi sites
michaellarabel: Deanjo: I don't think he'll do his Reiser spam
Deanjo: Heh, I wouldn't bet on it.
Deanjo: I can see it right now "btrfs STOLE code from Reiser and because of the Kernel Saboteurs......."
michaellarabel: http://phoronix.com/forums/member.php?u=149
Deanjo: lol, finally had enough I see
michaellarabel: Too many people have been sending complaints in about him.
Deanjo: Well that's gotta be a conspiracy too now
Kano: well then he will register another nick, no good idea
Deanjo: Ya, but you ban them a few times and eventually they give up
Deanjo: They get sick of resetting their IP after a while
redeeman: i don't see why people would complain about him
Deanjo: Because he constantly spams the same useless bullshit and then links to neo-nazi sites
redeeman: lol
redeeman: does anyone know if the intel SSD's use mlc or slc?
Deanjo: IIRC slc
redeeman: they have both the "enterprise" and mainstream version
redeeman: it would be nice with a list of proper ssd's, eg with good controller, and which have slc/mlc
Deanjo: Better quality bearings on the enterprise SSD's :P
redeeman: lol?
Deanjo: Ya I'm kidding
redeeman: i wouldn't be surprised if the mainstream thing had mlc
redeeman: "Random Writes are slow on most MLC SSD (the Intel is the only one I know of where this is not the case)"
redeeman: hmm
Deanjo: I think anandtech had a pretty in depth review of their SSD;s
Deanjo: Personally, I'll be holding off purchasing a SSD for a few years yet. Their lifespan has yet to be proven. Given that a majority of drive failures happen in the electronics, I'm taking a wait and see approach
redeeman: Deanjo: when ssd reaches price/gb with magnetic drives in a year or two, im gonna go allout ssd
Deanjo: wonders what ever happened to bubble memory that was talked so much about in the 90's
redeeman: mram!!
Deanjo: Holographic storage seemed to die off again
Deanjo: Ooops spoke too soon, their website was MIA last time I checked http://www.inphase-technologies.com/products/default.asp?tnn=3
Vegar: prods michaellarabel carefully
michaellarabel: Vegar: Yes?
Vegar: michaellarabel: have you read the premium forum recently?
michaellarabel: About the RSS problem? Still working on coming up with a way.
Vegar: ok
