Phoronix IRC Log: 2008-12-18

Milyardo: Good morning #phoronix
Deanjo: And what the hell is that supposed to mean Milyardo? Just what are you trying to say? :P
Xemanth: michaellarabel: when do we get article about Shanghais... ? :)
michaellarabel: Xemanth: Dual Shanghai testing in the next week or two. Quad Shanghai testing in January once I get a quad socket mobo from Tyan.
Xemanth: ah nice
Deanjo: Which one you getting michaellarabel ?
michaellarabel: Deanjo: Of the motherboard?
Deanjo: ya
michaellarabel: S4992
Deanjo: Which chipset does that use?
Deanjo: nv?
michaellarabel: nForcePro 3050+ 3600
michaellarabel: http://www.tyan.com/product_board_detail.aspx?pid=631
Deanjo: nice, should run solitaire smoothly :P
michaellarabel: With four of these @ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819105226 yes :)
Deanjo: k will be back in a few hours. Got to go play at the syncrotron today
Deanjo: See if I can make any blackholes :P
cxo: someone must be happy today
cxo: opensuse 11.1
bkero: hears crickets for opensuse 11.1
Xemanth: crickets ?
cxo: yes like the english sport
Xemanth: yes like finnish sauna competition
Xemanth: =)
cxo: sauna competition? sounds intriguing
cxo: is there a woman's league?
Erektium: cxo, yes women also compete
bkero: wtf
Erektium: ?
bkero: sauna competition
Milyardo: googles for women's sauna competition leagues
Milyardo: I've never had a sport that sparked intersest like this one before
Milyardo: http://www.weirdspot.com/index.php/weblog/sexy_mousepads/
Deanjo: brrrrrrrrrrrrr
Milyardo: assert(Deanjo.IsCold())
Deanjo: lol yup
bkero: except FaggotError('gtfo')
Deanjo: heh, I like the topic in this room. xine-vdpau devel channel || http://hftom.free.fr/video_samples/README-VDPAU || Source repository: svn://jusst.de/xine-vdpau || nvidia=>180.16 || Experimental stuff, new decoders from scratch, expect bugs, crashes, smoke ..
Deanjo: Smoke is cool
Milyardo: I like smoke with my movies
bkero: New vdpau on the 12th?
bkero: builds
Deanjo: ya, can play "scene" releases now
bkero: Important
maligor: I hope it isn't blue smoke
Deanjo: Slight issue with a few frames being out of order, but I guess they have a fix for that already and a new set of patches are due soon
maligor: blue smoke would be really bad
Deanjo: I usually don't start to worry until the flames hit about a foot in height
Milyardo: thats when you have to go get the smores
Deanjo: yup
Milyardo: make sure your pantry is stocked
Deanjo: heh see ms is screaming "Run your updates!!!" again
bkero: http://www.geekologie.com/2008/12/mmmm_delicious_gingerbread_gee.php
maligor: I wonder how good the walker is structurally
maligor: unless they've cheated with metal wire or something
redeeman: Deanjo: what do you mean "frames being out of order" ? stuff like... it displaying frames in wrong sequence? like.. 1 4 3 2 ?
maligor: how can that even happen in a sequential stream
Deanjo: yup redeeman
redeeman: lol nvidia
maligor: the only way it can happen if you use buffered frames that get read in the wrong order I guess
Deanjo: It's been corrected, new packages should appear I'd imagine today, tomorrow or sometime early next week.
redeeman: it does however show how nvidia must be complete morons to create such a bug
Deanjo: Uhhuh, and we would believe you that you have never created a bug in your life too.
maligor: redeeman, I dunno.. I've created plenty of moronic bugs
Deanjo: redeeman apparently has never
maligor: it's usually only a problem if you work at something alone
Deanjo: Ya second set of eyes always helps
Deanjo: Even someone unfamiliar to the code can be a help. Christ if I made money off of the number of times a stupid little semicolon has caused grief......
redeeman: Deanjo: i haven't created bugs i'd side with such a bug from nvidia
redeeman: especially one spanning multiple versions
Deanjo: multiple versions? That's the only release that had it
redeeman: pardon me then, i heard people complain about it in two versions
Deanjo: But we all get it anyways redeeman, you shit doesn't stink
Deanjo: That's funny redeeman since the issue only shows it's self when non compliant streams are present and the only version to support non compliant streams is the last
redeeman: i guess those people complaining were wrong then
Deanjo: More like you have no idea about the issue and have your facts fucked up
redeeman: not really. i heard it described exactly as you said, frame ordering issues
Deanjo: Which only happens in the last release
Deanjo: Hell you asked what the issue was, so that shows you didn't even know about the issue
redeeman: i didn't know what it DOES
redeeman: there is a difference
Deanjo: So your commenting on something you have no clue about. Great way to make a informed opinion
maligor: dunno how they wouldn't spot frames being swapped
Deanjo: It's pretty obvious, the frame that is out of whack is well behind the scene
maligor: I imagine it'll create jerky motion
Deanjo: Ya that's what it looks like
Deanjo: The rogue frame happens after many other frames have already been displayed
Milyardo: !alive
bkero: I had frames swapped from every release of vdpau/nvidia drivers on an episode of the office I got off usenet
bkero: blargh look at me, I'm nvidia. Non-complaint streams blargh
bkero: and how are you sure it's from non-complaint streams instead of an incomplete video codec?
redeeman: bkero: so you are saying it affects more than one driver release?
bkero: redeeman: It's affected every driver release I've tried, from 180.08 to 180.16
redeeman: Thats funny
redeeman: because deanjo just called out at me for saying i don't know what im talking about
redeeman: when i claimed something similar
bkero: He likes to run his mouth almost as much as I do. :P
cxo: ok ok ok, say you know this guy that hasnt been in the game for a long time, and has just met this hottie, but they're politically incompatible. what should this guy do?
Brace: put his politics to one side for a while?
Brace: also, asking for dating advice on a linux IRC channel probably isn't a good idea
Brace: finally, if this were a forum I'd also have to add 'this thread is useless without pics'
cxo: cool. I'll let him know
cxo: brb
Brace: hahahahaha
Brace: that's got to be bashed, as we all know where he's going...
cxo: did you all know about VIA's patch to xine for hardware acceleration?
cxo: http://sourceforge.net/projects/viaexp
redeeman: michaellarabel: on the java benchmarks, were both OSs 32 or 64bit ?
