Phoronix IRC Log: 2008-11-22

bkero: Slow IRC is slow.
bkero: rsyncs stuff back over. -avz turns 2.3GB used into 750mb of transfer :)
bkero: !karma rsync
dante_2core: penumbra requiem out *rejoice*
Milyardo: Why are there 3 packages with the 180.08 driver?
bkero: There were no ebuilds. :/ I have one now. :)
bkero: 3716fps on glxgears on the gf 9400m
Deanjo: You know your a linux addict when you start referring to multiple offspring as "the cluster"
cxo: Or when you say "sudo" before telling people what to do
Brace: you could always try 'sudo apt-get install social-life'
bkero: Or you actually 'emerge' something.
GNU\colossus: If I need a little time alone, I usually just `telinit S`
Ivanovic: cxo: pah, this is so "new geek"
Ivanovic: cxo: i would recommend using "su -c"
Ivanovic: ;)
Deanjo: And to think some people think we are weird
Milyardo: The feeling is mutual in most cases Deanjo
Ivanovic: Deanjo: most *other* people are weird
cxo: Or when you start respecting women
cxo: all common problems of being a linux geek
Deanjo: michaellarabel, I made a big list of G15 linux urls for plugins and such. Still got more links to post http://www.phoronix.com/forums/showpost.php?p=52869&postcount=3
bkero: nVidias nvadpu no longer builds :/
Deanjo: are you using the same svn version?
bkero: I'm running their little supplied script
bkero: So I'm adduming they have their own svn repo of version-that-works
Deanjo: and what error are you getting?
bkero: Was something about not libavcodec not finding decoders for vdapu-decoder-something, 3 of them.
bkero: I removed the folder and am trying again, I'll pastebin it.
Deanjo: Do you have the 180.08 drivers installed?
bkero: Yep
bkero: made an ebuild and installed the nvidia-drivers-180.08 and nvidia-settings-180.08
Deanjo: your getting an error such as:
Deanjo: allcodecs.c:(.text+0x25d): undefined reference to `h264_vdpau_decoder'
Deanjo: allcodecs.c:(.text+0x64d): undefined reference to `vc1_vdpau_decoder'
bkero: Yes
bkero: libavcodec/libavcodec.a(allcodecs.o): In function `avcodec_register_all':
bkero: allcodecs.c:(.text+0x203): undefined reference to `h264_vdpau_decoder'
bkero: allcodecs.c:(.text+0x54b): undefined reference to `vc1_vdpau_decoder'
bkero: allcodecs.c:(.text+0x5e1): undefined reference to `wmv3_vdpau_decoder'
bkero: Any clue?
Deanjo: Your vdpau headers are not found, you might want read this thread http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=123095
Deanjo: ./configure --enable-vdpau
Deanjo: http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=1845815&postcount=45
bkero: Unknown parameter :/
Deanjo: sounds like you patched it before installing the 180.08's
bkero: I installed 180.08's a couple reboots ago
Deanjo: still builds here
bkero: What's the md5 of your configure?
bkero: 7ef14fdc603ad766929bd7d98c241b07
Deanjo: comparing md5's is useless as I probably have different options and libraries installed
Milyardo: Does the 180 drivers not come with 32bit libs anumore?
Milyardo: *any
Deanjo: I assume so, the installer still prompts me if I want to install them
cxo: may not be safe for work, http://www.leapingjaguar.com/communities/8/004/006/403/078/images/4520702235.jpg
Deanjo: lol
bkero: Deanjo: Where are the header files/what are they named?
Deanjo: OMG, combustion nakedness
Deanjo: Here /usr/include/vdpau/
bkero: Yea, I don't have one of those :/
Deanjo: vdpau.h and vdpau_x11.h
Deanjo: ftp://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/vdpau/include/vdpau/
bkero: wonders why the 180.08 package didn't install those
bkero: fails hard. I was typing vdapu.
bkero: I still don't have those headers, let's see if this works
cxo: Deanjo, Hey do you know what the laws are for towing a car? I'm buying a project v12 jag, its been sitting a barn for 24yrs
cxo: ^in a barn
Deanjo: Ya, I've heard of some places that have laws for towing cards
Deanjo: cars
cxo: i dont have to go too far actually, just a few km
cxo: i wonder if i could just hitch it to the jeep and bring it home
Deanjo: I say attach it to a harrier and fly it home
bkero: grumbles. http://pastebin.osuosl.org/22645
bkero: Fixed their sloppy code.
bkero: Horray, after linking some libraries in, and fixing some of their int i; int i; mistakes, it compiled.
cxo: Hey do you get Windows support in here?
cxo: How do you get the classic look going on office-2k7?
bkero: Set your GTK theme to something close
cxo: is a tyga!
