Deanjo: 1 more day until the Unreal Tournament 3 for linux Non-release party!!!
Xemanth: haha
Xemanth: non-release party =)
Deanjo: http://forums.epicgames.com/showthread.php?p=25720670#post25720670
Deanjo: How long until it gets pulled :P
Deanjo: LMAO http://www.theinquirer.net/gb/inquirer/news/2008/11/18/help-iphone-photographed
flowty: hi, is anyone here willing/able to speak about VDPAU, developer-side ?
redeeman: Deanjo: it's gone now
Alastair: Hi guys... I'll be buying a new VGA soon, and i'm considering 9800GTX+ and HD4850 as viable options... Which one has better linux support and features (video accel., etc. ) at the moment or in near-future? I'll be using it mostly for casual gaming in my display's native res. [1920x1200] (etqw, UT3 if it ever comes out xD ), maybe some games through wine and HD video playback...
flowty: Alastair: stick with nvidia, almost all models supported
maligor: 'almost all models supported' is pretty much for ati too, heh
Alastair: hm...that may not be very true, my old 9500 is stil supported, but the 5900XT is pretty much useless now :/
maligor: 9500 would be supported by the opensource drivers
maligor: the fglrx driver on 9500 is probably abysmally buggy
Alastair: still it works, and the last time i tried the 5900xt it went in vesa mode -.-
Alastair: that doesn't matter tho, the 9800 and 4850 are realtively new, they'll be supported for a few years at least...
Alastair: i just can't decide which one to get xD
Kano: michaellarabel: http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=1847941
michaellarabel: Thanks Kano
Kano: michaellarabel: better they would have not mentioned the vdpau fixes, just tested bug bunny mov -> avi converted (using copy mode only)
Kano: and X fully crashed. als mov only mplayer crashed
Kano: check yourself with mencoder -ovc copy -oac copy file.mov -o file.avi
Kano: but opengl create context is now in glxinfo
Kano: that means opengl3 support
Milyardo: Has slashdot lost its mind?
Milyardo: Seriously?
Milyardo: AIX on the desktop?
rski: atari on the desktop
Deanjo: What is wrong with AIX on the desktop?
Milyardo: Nothing, but its not news that IBM is killing it
Deanjo: Oh ok, because it was fairly popular on workstations
Milyardo: That and whoever thought smit was an awesome ssh client is smoking something not so legal
Deanjo: lol
Deanjo: *depending on location of said consumption
Alastair: Netherlands FTW ^^
maligor: What does AIX come with? CDE?
Deanjo: CDE, KDE, and GNOME
Deanjo: CDE was default IIRC
redeeman: Milyardo: newsflash: desktops not only are for braindead morons that gets scared if there isn't a big ugly blue IE icon
Deanjo: brb
Deanjo: Heh, I love to see what this beast folds at http://www.tycrid.com/?page_id=85
redeeman: hmm
redeeman: a guy just tried to tell me that it's bad if theres any entries in /proc/mtrr that's uncachable, that cant be true?
redeeman: http://zlin.dk/p/?MzRlZWNj
redeeman: is that bad? i have 8gb ram
redeeman: granted, i don't know much about this, but isn't it weird that it has overlapping ones?
cxo: So how many of you are holding thumbs for Merry opensource 3d ATi?
