Kano: hi Deanjo , is your movie finished?
mha: nope.
Kano: mha: ?
Tallken: testing channel's liveness
Darklock: test... failed
Tallken: Darklock, lol
Tallken: one response
Tallken: not bad, not bad indeed
Darklock: where?
Tallken: yours? :P
Darklock: that was none
Tallken: why?
Kano: hi michaellarabel , can you update the monitoring a bit more often? the first peak is usually too long
Kano: thats always then an app starts
michaellarabel: Kano: I set the timer to 8 seconds during my testing
Kano: is there a var to use 5?
michaellarabel: You would need to change pts-core/modules/system_monitor.php line 145 to read pts_module::pts_timed_function(5, "pts_monitor_update");
Kano: ah
Kano: maybe make it responding to an env var in the future
michaellarabel: Yeah, could easily do that
monreal: looking for a a cheap agp card to replace a broken geforce 4600 in my sister's athlon xp-class pc. Any idea?
monreal: (it should run fine with linux of cause)
monreal: Shops mainly list Radeon HD3450, Radeon 9600 Pro, GeForce FX5500... any suggestions?
Kano: monreal: maybe a geforce 6600gt second hand or better
Kano: do you really want to buy a new one?
monreal: well you never really know what you get 2nd hand...
Kano: sure, but the pc should be replaced soon anyway
Kano: nice intel onboard gfx or nvidia 9300 onboard + E5200
Kano: much better choice than buying agp cards
monreal: that's true...
Deanjo: michaellarabel, are you getting your 1 year and still no UT3 client article ready?
gummybearx: ugh.....rage....on.....epic..... >:o
mha: who... cares... argh...
gummybearx: i do. i bought the game. and im out fiddy bucks
Deanjo: brb
mha: perhaps you should have read the supported platforms on the dvd case ;)
gummybearx: or all the press releases promising linux support? :D
mha: besides, it seems like some have gotten it to work quite fair in wine? :)
gummybearx: sure, but that is beside the point... they sed linux, and didnt provide.
mha: I think it's to be expected. it's fail, sure. but I am not at all surprised
mha: those whom would be are probably a tad naive to company good will ;)
gummybearx: of course not. i should have expected it, but i had high hopes from ut2004 shipping with the binary on disk
mha: yupp
Deanjo: Meh if Epic was a woman they would have been labelled a "dick tease"
gummybearx: its cool tho. i didnt miss anything... gameplay kinda sucked anyway
mha: you can always try to return it to the store. I did that with a wlan card once which didn't work under linux - 4 months after purchase
mha: because the seller said it wouldn't be a problem :-)
gummybearx: _not_ as good as 2k4 by any standards
gummybearx: thats cool, but i really am not worried about the 50bux. and software return is a diff beast than hardware
Deanjo: I wanted it more for a game that actually would push the modern hardware a bit in linux
gummybearx: Deanjo me too :-)
Darklock: definitely
gummybearx: cause the qw:et client runs like crap on my comp
Darklock: ...why
Deanjo: All these driver tweaks and advancements mean shit if there is nothing to exploit them
Darklock: it should run even faster than Doom3, which lacked optimisation
gummybearx: not sure.... ut2004 and doom3 ran flawlessly on my laptop, but et was crappy
Deanjo: both of those ran fine on my old GF 4600
gummybearx: yea something was up... it _was_ fglrx tho, so thats prolly what it was :-)
Darklock: yeah right fglrx, which ran et:qw faster than on Vista according to a Phoronix test :-D
Darklock: or maybe that was before the new OpenGL implementation?
Deanjo: Maybe Carmack will suprise us with a Rage binary
Darklock: that would be TTimo
Deanjo: It would really be nice though to have a game that wasn't a FPS but still pushed the hardware for a change
Deanjo: a rts or rpg for example
Darklock: X³ is quite demanding
Deanjo: For what? a 3 year old system?
Darklock: for a linux game
Deanjo: That barely pushes a 3 year old hardware
Darklock: I am running "3 year old hardware" right now, I doubt a 1416 MHz CPU and Radeon 9200 could run it ;-)
Darklock: yes, it is just a Mac mini..
Deanjo:
Deanjo: Operating System 2.2.x or better Linux kernel with glibc-2.1 or later and X-Windows (XFree86 3.3.5 or later)
Deanjo: Processor 2.0 GHz x86 Processor
Deanjo: Memory 900 MB
Deanjo: Graphics Card Hardware Accelerated 3D Graphics card with 128 MB video memory
Darklock: see, short on CPU and GPU (32 MB), just for the *minimum* requirement
Darklock: have you tried it?
Deanjo: ya
Darklock: what kind of results did you get?
Deanjo: A 3200+ Socket 754, GF 6600 GT w 1.5 Gig ram was overkill
Darklock: I heard different but good to hear
maligor: etqw works fine on fglrx here
Deanjo: They fix the rendering bugs yet maligor ?
maligor: haven't really played etqw of recent
maligor: didn't notice rendering bugs back then
Deanjo: The "checkerboard" effect
maligor: erhm.. you mean the one that totally breaks it?
Deanjo: yup
maligor: the one that shifts blocks around on the framebuffer level?
maligor: since that was fixed a while back
maligor: 8.9 possibly
maligor: or was it 8.10
Deanjo: I thought I read that some peeps said it came back
Deanjo: I could be wrong though, can't truthfully say I follow fglrx development. After battling with a 690g it was best to just give up.
Deanjo: I try ATI about once every 3 years, swear alot, give up, and go back to nv
maligor: they do seem to add some very odd regressions to the drivers from time to time
Darklock: http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=NjE1Nw "When X3: Reunion becomes available on the closed beta program, we will likely be delivering Linux ATI/NVIDIA benchmarks [...]" I do not see any :-/
Deanjo: Hell I even purchased the "commercial" XiG Summit drivers at one point in a last ditched effort to get the radeon going
Deanjo: Still was crap
Darklock: lol
maligor: Deanjo, well, the fglrx drivers were better in my experience than what I was expecting
Deanjo: Better then expected however does not equal better then the competition
Deanjo: Ahhh the good old days.... http://www.xig.com/Pages/Series/DX-Desktop.html
Deanjo: Can't believe they still are around
Deanjo: I should slap together that old system and run PTS on it :P
Darklock: Deanjo: http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=460&num=4 30 fps on 1280@HQ for X² (I would not use any lower setting, that would be a waste) and you say yours was overkill for X³?
Deanjo: Ya it ran fine
Darklock: michaellarabel: are you planning any similar test for X³?
Deanjo: IIRC I was at 1024x768 to be honest
Deanjo: with defaults
Deanjo: Hmmmm, I wonder if PTS would run on Corel Linux in a VM
Darklock: :-/
Deanjo: Got old Caldera linux too
Kano: michaellarabel: did you every play nexuiz from the repository?
michaellarabel: Kano: Nope, I don't play games aside from testing
Kano: i wanted to play with my ati card, but whenever i tried to change the res from the menu (it was enough to press apply without any change)
Kano: and there was no .nexuiz dir before
Kano: then the screen is corrupted
Kano: tried serveral ati drivers, last one working is 8-8
Kano: always display corruption, just like the wine error you may remember and the screenshots with it
Kano: apt-get install nexuiz nexuiz-music
Kano: is the way to install the game usually.
Kano: universe for intrepid
Kano: thats the same version i try as backport
Kano: can not say if that only happens with r400, i do not own a newer card
Kano: RV410 to be exact
Kano: beryl does not work with xorg 7.11 and newer ati drivers too...
Kano: but lets see when lenny is final
Ivanovic: michaellarabel: still not mentioning that xf86-video-intel-2.5.1 is out?
Kano: Ivanovic: http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=Njg1Mg
Ivanovic: argh
Ivanovic: okay, this happens when only scanning for version numbers
maligor: Kano, try enabling xrandr1.2
Kano: maligor: when?
maligor: it might fix the corruption
Kano: with xorg 7.11?
maligor: 7.11?
maligor: you mean catalyst 8.11?
Kano: Host/Kernel/OS "Kanotix" running Linux 2.6.27-9-generic i686 [ KANOTIX 2007 Thorhammer ]

maligor: or xorg 7.4? or xorg 7.3?
Kano: thats 8-8 now
Kano: because that worked with nexuiz
maligor: oh, xorg 7.1
maligor: I meant enabling the fglrx xrandr1.2 option
maligor: it might help even so
maligor: with 8.11
Kano: how?
ExtremeCoder: Hello
btQ: hello
btQ: are there any roadmaps when the linux radeon driver will become useable?
Lightkey: und das fragste sonntag früh um 5?
Lightkey: geht ratzen
btQ: jo
btQ: LightKey: Woanders is jetzt klar tach
btQ: oder abend
Lightkey: nick completion is nice
btQ: hehe
btQ: sollte auch ratzen gehen. aufregen über fglrx bringt ja eh nix
btQ: immerhin gibbet kein blackwindowbug alle 5 minuten
