Phoronix IRC Log: 2008-11-08

Marox: moin
Kano: hi, i asked some time ago, if somebody has an intel nic - with pci id 8086:294c
Kano: most easy way to check: lspci -nn|grep 8086:294c
Kano: i even got the nvram dump, but i lost it somehow
maligor: lspci -nn -d 8086:294c
Kano: you have that card?
war9407: [8086:10b9] [8086:100e] [8086:1076] [8086:104b] but not 294c
Kano: usally on Q board from intel
maligor: I have marvell
maligor: I just pointed out that you can use -d instead of grep
Kano: ok
Kano: hi GNU\colossus
Deanjo: just about falls out of his chair seeing that a nVidia card got a Seal of Approval
michaellarabel: Did Feisty die off? All mirrors seem to have been eliminated... http://releases.ubuntu.com/ 6.10 and 7.10 are there but no 7.04.
cxo: wonders if Deanjo is working the grave yard shift
Deanjo: Nope days off
Deanjo: Working the Football Game/Beer shift :P
cxo: i actually cant believe i'm up so early on a saturday, damn all day project meeting today
Deanjo: http://www.cse.uiuc.edu/turing/Images/FrontCloseUp.jpg
Deanjo: yummy
cxo: jeez these url names are misleading, i was expecting....something else :)
Deanjo: Computer pr0n............
Deanjo: Arrrgh!!! Goddammit!!! Will people ever stop trying to run Appleworks on a Intel system with 10.5
Deanjo: For some reason people just refuse to let that app die
Deanjo: This guy did a nice job http://www.maximumpc.com/article/features/rig_month_project_fivewood
redeeman: 16:48:22 up 1114 days, 10 min, 1 user, load average: 1.02, 1.40, 1.14
Deanjo: That's one hell of a long time to go without patching security holes in the kernel
redeeman: it's a server
redeeman: not a regularly-rebooting-maybe-serving-box
Deanjo: All the more reason to apply security updates
redeeman: it wouldn't be serving while rebooting
maligor: appledoesntworks
Deanjo: I'll take the 2 minutes for a reboot over leaving security holes open anyday
maligor: I seem to have a knack for mis-locating terminals
Kano: hi GNU\colossus
`Zypher: fudgies
`Zypher: warhammer + wine = working, poorly :D
Kano: ut3 engine or not?
`Zypher: Gamebryo
`Zypher: I'm getting 25~ fps with 16xQ aa 16 af
`Zypher: some strange rendering issues with terrain
`Zypher: but its acceptable
cxo: nvidia?
`Zypher: cxo: yea
`Zypher: http://boxstr.com/files/4043697_co2bq/Zypher%5EF_000.jpg
`Zypher: :D
cxo: michaellarabel, hey, so whatcha think of what i said yesterday
redeeman: i really own
cxo: own what?
redeeman: everything ;D
redeeman: i just switched servers for a client
redeeman: remotely, without it fucking up :D
redeeman: and that included switching the ip's aswell
redeeman: i had expected it to give problems
redeeman: so i rigged a timed reboot with usable settings to get in touch again
cxo: Do you have Time? There is no use in owning everything if you have no time? How much time do you have?
redeeman: but it was not required
redeeman: i have plenty
redeeman: i only work ~1 week each month
cxo: cries
redeeman: ?
cxo: I only work 5 weeks a month
redeeman: that would seem to be more than what is nice
redeeman: i find it most nice to just accept the good jobs, which typically equals 1 week/month
redeeman: sure, it's not a really really high salary, but i make just below average monthly wager
redeeman: ofcourse the average counts people working full time
redeeman: so :)
cxo: Are you in school?
redeeman: no
redeeman: I was in school, but then i realized it kindof sucked, and had unacceptable conditions, so i quit
redeeman: and started my own company
redeeman: been doing that for 4 years now
redeeman: almost
redeeman: 3.5
cxo: For me to have time and money for all my hobbies, I'd have to make $50k/month and work 30hrs/week
cxo: Considering i'm just getting into the world of management, i've got a long way to go before that happens
cxo: hopefully before i get too old, that i cant do an LS1 swap into a series 1 XJ
redeeman: lol
redeeman: ahh the joys of ssh login attempts
redeeman: isn't it just grand?
