rief: hi all
Ivanovic: moin
starkmjolk: mornin
Marox: moin
TMM: hi all
Aubi: i need help with sensors can anyone help
Aubi: CPU Temp: +128.0°C (low = -1.0°C, high = +127.0°C) sensor = disabled
Aubi: it8712-isa-0290
Aubi: Adapter: ISA adapter
Ivanovic: and?
Aubi: doesnt record cpu temp
Ivanovic: the problem with sensor data is, is that there is no "real" specification that is used for all mainboards
Aubi: but it always records the same temp
Ivanovic: have you considered using the thermal diode that is built into the cpu?
Aubi: +128c
Aubi: yes
Ivanovic: with other words: what is your mainboard and what is your cpu
Aubi: k8temp-pci-00c3
Aubi: Adapter: PCI adapter
Aubi: Core0 Temp: +6.0°C
Aubi: Core0 Temp: -5.0°C
Aubi: Core1 Temp: -1.0°C
Aubi: Core1 Temp: -5.0°C
Ivanovic: which version of lmsensors are you using?
Aubi: version 3
Aubi: kernel 2.6.27
Aubi: not correct temps either
Aubi: mainbord is asus m2n-dvi
Ivanovic: http://www.lm-sensors.org/wiki/Devices
Ivanovic: "Note: most recent K8 models have been reported to have broken thermal sensors so the k8temp driver will return bogus values and there's nothing we can do."
Ivanovic: what is your cpu?
Ivanovic: sounds much like a quadcore
Aubi: its a dual core 4200 amd x2
Ivanovic: okay,
Ivanovic: that is a k8 which is listed as "currently probably broken"
Aubi: what about the main board
Ivanovic: no idea what this should say
Aubi: great
Aubi: records voltages great just no temps
Ivanovic: ask asus for support
Ivanovic: ;)
Aubi: ( Computer Stats ) [ CPU Model: Dual AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4200+
bkero: phenoms have been broken since I can remember
bkero: I've still got an opty 165 in my main rig, k8temp works perfectly on it.
bkero: Try a newer kernel? :/
cxo: Deanjo, is there something you want to tell us about Apple and PPC?
cxo: Why are they acquiring PPC tech, PA-Semi, and and Mark.P from IBM?
cxo: are they going to start making PPC chip machines again?
Deanjo: Nope they won't be going to be making PPC macs again
Deanjo: Those acquirement's are for a totally different purpose not related to the desktop market at all
cxo: PPC is useless in embedded devices when compared to MIPS and ARM
cxo: so what are they going to do with all the technology
Deanjo: Who said anything about embedded?
Deanjo: Apple doesn't only cater to "home user"
cxo: No one did
cxo: If they are going to make PC or PC like devices then PPC is useless
cxo: s/are/arent
Deanjo: That's not what those acquirement's are for
cxo: what are they for?
Deanjo: Military/Large scale server implementations
cxo: Apple? Military?
Azerthoth: wow, talk about cart before the horse
Deanjo: Apple has a whole group that deals with the military, has had for years
Azerthoth: DoD is under mandate to switch to Linux
cxo: I'd be pretty embarrassed if our military had fruity PCs
redeeman: probably the navy
redeeman: lol
Azerthoth: not to mention, there is a good reason you dont hear about apple servers
cxo: yeah... those sailor boys might like it
Azerthoth: gah, I cant wait to see what the build time for this is going to be ... yeesh
Deanjo: Azerthoth, the server market is Apple's next market that it is aggressively going after
Azerthoth: Deanjo wont happen, BSD can do it, but after you bolt on the apple stuff, it just cant do it
cxo: x86 servers are a commodity today
cxo: you are foolish if you think you can make money from it
Deanjo: Azerthoth, that's extremely short sighted of you, you don't think Apple will address concerns such as yours?
Azerthoth: the only thing keeping apple afloat is the iLemming devices
cxo: iPods and iPhones, and other iGay devices
cxo: you see the all-in-one XPS?
Deanjo: Azerthoth, Apple is making more on computers right now then it ever has, iPods are hardly the only thing driving apple profits
Azerthoth: Deanjo there was a reason apple went with cots in all their gear, if they try to switch back, they will be right where they were before
cxo: looks sweet, but pricey lack the macy
Azerthoth: Deanjo apple is making computers on yuppy factor, truth is all the hardwar in their overpriced boxes it cots
cxo: whats cots?
Azerthoth: is cots
Azerthoth: commecial off the shelf
Deanjo: Azerthoth, FYI Yuppies are seniors nowdays
Azerthoth: nope, they are cranked out by the boat load in our colleges
Azerthoth: maybe a different name, but the mentality is the same
Deanjo: lol those aren't yuppies. The Yuppy generation is long gone
cxo: as long as there are super 1337 h4x0r5 like me, there will always be yuppies, its a natural ecosystem, it has to be balanced
Azerthoth: bows to cxo's wisdom
cxo: Yes i know all about the ecosystem :)
cxo: Rich / Poor, Dumb / Smart, Short / Tall , Ugly / Hot, Sweet / Sour, Apple / IBM, Microsoft / Linux etc...
Deanjo: I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Apple make a move to aquire Sun as well
Azerthoth: nit at the moment, Sun is a liability
cxo: They can wish, Sun is 1) Too Big 2) Not very profitable 3) A difference business model
Azerthoth: Novell may turn their attention that way after they finish mopping up SCO
Deanjo: lol cxo to purchase Sun Apple wouldn't even have to use up their pocketchange
cxo: yeah they sold quite a few iPods last year
cxo: Sun plays IBM's game of "solutions" provider, its not a good fit for Apple
Deanjo: Hell they have more in expendable reserves right now then MS does
cxo: OS -> Hardware -> Cluster Management, the whole chain
cxo: and they are too busy milking MySQL right now to be too worried
cxo: oh and dont forget the sun hypervisor
Deanjo: Geee, and doesn't that just fit right in to Apples recent aquirements
Azerthoth: Apple's cash flow may well be taking a hit, they have 7 antitrust violations and 2 magnussen act violations going to court right now
cxo: respects the Sub hypervisor
cxo: s/Sub/Sun
Azerthoth: those are just the ones the judge didnt toss out
cxo: Sun makes sparc not PPC boxes
Deanjo: Azerthoth, we have been hearing the EXACT same fud for 25+ years
Azerthoth: Deanjo no fud on this, the docs are on groklaw
Deanjo: There has been shit like that for 25+ years Azerthoth
cxo: thats why Apple is still a fud company, and can only make fudge products and other sweet things like that :)
Deanjo: Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
cxo: iCandy
Azerthoth: Deanjo cxo I need to back out of this, arguing with Apple fanbois is much like arguing with stallmanites
cxo: PPC products for the military
cxo: laughs
cxo: We arent arguing, we were just discussing apple and the military
cxo: The taliban might just die of laughter when an American solder pulls out an Apple PDA or something
Deanjo: You do realize that the military is the larges consumer of PPC right?
Azerthoth: you just about owed me a new keyboard cxo
redeeman: or from the poisones material crapple stuff is made of
Azerthoth: not nice to make comments like that when I have a mouth full of coffee
cxo: i dont know too much about military hardware, my work was always on the software side, Security (PKCS11, SELinux etc...)
Deanjo: Azerthoth, I'm hardly a fanboi, I simply look at situations from all angles instead of jumping on one podium and then blindly screaming the otherside sucks
Deanjo: I'm probably one of the most unbiased guys out there. I have no real preference to any one computing solution out there that isn't backed up from extensive use of alternatives
Deanjo: Every solution has it's strong points and weak points and not one does all of it best.
cxo: you know you cant say that after spending a life time working at Apple, its not your fault, its just how society and perception works
Deanjo: Life time? 5 years
cxo: but i will agree with you, you are not homo enough to be an apple fanboy
Deanjo: I've also worked for their competitors for a longer period of time.
cxo: 5 years, thats like 35 cxo years :)
Deanjo: heh, that's like a weekend for me nowdays :P
cxo: i'm jealous, last thing i remember is starting university and that was like 10 years ago :)
Deanjo: cxo=Van Wilder :P
cxo: School was heavily medicated
cxo: ah but i wasnt as interested in girls as he is, i was more obsessed with fast cars and money
Deanjo: Says the guy with the 2TB worth of porn.....
cxo: well thats for medical purposes :)
cxo: and education :)
Deanjo: It kept ya off the streets at least
mydrmeix: okay so radeon HD AGP cards are now supported, but I get a really low window redrawing on opaque windows. Also my FPS in glxgears is about 1002fps
cxo: suckage
bkero: feels like a yakety sax is in order.
cxo: wonders if that has anything to do with playing the sax
bkero: Absolutely not.
bkero: You're on the internet, yet have never heard Yakety Sax?
cxo: No, I play the Sax, and i've never heard of Yakety Sax
