shital_: Can Any one help me, how to install Splashtop on Hard disk partition??
Ivanovic: moin
shital_: Hi
shital_: Hi Kano
shital_: I was trying to put some extra packages on Splashtop, but i got some GLIBC-1.4 missing error
shital_: and please give me the script to install splashtop on Hard disk
Kano: shital_: you have to use etch - or kanotix
Kano: you can not use a newer distro to repack
shital_: ok, i was trying to install make so i got that error
shital_: Kano: is it possible to install java-1.6 on it?
shital_: i am trying for its source code but m not finding
Kano: sure i have got a java 6 package *g*
shital_: Kano please give me the link where i can download the source code please
shital_: i am also trying to build it from sorce
Kano: thats not from source thats binary from sun, the source variante does not work
Kano: you should install kanotix if want to pack apps on your own
shital_: ohh, in that i can build .sqx files directly?
Kano: ?
shital_: what application is in that?
Kano: mksquashfs??
shital_: ok
shital_: yaa
shital_: i am trying to build .sqx files for different applications, so for that i need to have sources right?
Kano: NO
Kano: but you are using the wrong distro
Kano: to use binary
shital_: presently how i am trying to build .sqx is, i am downloading the source and compiling it on some other Linux OS, and installing that to one seperate directry and using that for sqx file with mksquashfs
shital_: is that correct i am doing or wrong?
shital_: i am using "mksquashfs directory va-name.sqx
Kano: thats correct
shital_: OK
Kano: compilign will never work with your distro
shital_: which distro?
Kano: your
Kano: it is too new
Kano: glibc errors means that your distro is too new
shital_: ohhh ok ok
shital_: Kano, the script to install splashtop on HD u given last time, is that correct one or u created any new versions?
Kano: it should work
shital_: ok fine
shital_: today i downloaded xterm sorce, and i compiled and created .sqx and tried with splashtop, but when i press Alt+F1 i did not get the terminal, what extra settings have to be done for that??
Kano: well you can complile whatevery ou want it will not work
Kano: didnt i give you my xterm sqx?
shital_: yaaa, u given but just i was trying, to check whether my .sqx files are working?
Kano: well i made a gnome-terminal symlink
shital_: ohh, correct i thought of it
Kano: but nothing you "compiled" will work due to glibc too new!
shital_: ohh ok ok, then i need to install old glibc, which version i need to install?
Kano: you cant
Kano: you need a full distro using old glibc
shital_: correct
shital_: the Kanotix is having right one ?
Kano: or try -static
shital_: Kano: But the steps i am following to build .sqx files is correct right?
Kano: yes, but wrong distro ;)
shital_: that is tru, with distro, if i follow same steps on KANOTIX then i will succeed right?
Marox: moin
Plouj: hi
Plouj: I'm thinking of running a bonnie benchmark using PTS on a machine with very limited disk space: 4GB total and only 512MB free. This means that I'll have to tell bonnie to use no more than 512MB of space which is incidentally the same amount of ram in the machine.
Plouj: Looking at the bonnie test it looks like it automatically sets the disk usage to 2x the RAM amount in a machine. Does that mean that my test won't be of good value because it can fit in the machine's memory?
Plouj: Or is 2x just a rule of thumb?
Kano: shital_: basically
Deanjo: http://www.jetway.com.tw/jw/ipcboard_view.asp?productid=515&proname=NC81-LF <----- now there is a nice little board
Deanjo: Couple that with a underclocked Athlon and your whooping the Atoms ass in power consumption and speed
Marox: has anyone played around with the new Unigine_Sanctuary2 ?
Deanjo: Yup
Deanjo: Sure doesn't like SFR SLi
Marox: do you know the minimum sys specs ? or are they the same like the plder version ?
Marox: *sys requirements
Deanjo: good question
Deanjo: DX9 class card for sure
Deanjo: Proc wise I would venture to guess minimum of SSE2 supported proc
Plouj: michaellarabel: is there a way to override the default arguments passed to a test running in batch mode instead of appending to them?
michaellarabel: What do you mean?
Plouj: for example, looking at iozone.xml it sets the default filesize to 904800 by saying: -s 904800 -r 1
Plouj: in my test suite, I'd like to use a different size so I say: -s 512000, but instead of replacing the default arguments my arguments are just appended
Plouj: so the final command is like: ./iozone -s 904800 -r 1 -s 512000
Plouj: and in the end iozone ends up creating a 904800 kilobyte file
Plouj: the only solution I see to this is creating my own iozone2.xml file with changed defaults
Marox: hmm.. well, unigine starts fine, but i get shader errors ..
michaellarabel: Plouj: Right now that would be the only way
Plouj: ok
Marox: could it be some kind of driver issue ?
Deanjo: Could be
Marox: hmm.. Video memory: 256 Mb <--- detected by unigine .. but my graphicscard has only 128Mb
michaellarabel: Marox: What does phoronix-test-suite diagnostics show for VIDEO_MEMORY
Marox: VIDEO_MEMORY = 128
michaellarabel: hmm
Deanjo: What video card Marox ?
Marox: ati radeon 9800 pro :)
Deanjo: Maybe fire off a bug report to unigine
Deanjo: There are still some kinks in it
Marox: do they have a bug tracker ?
Plouj: strange, for some reason this generates no results at all: http://codepad.org/TtDIc6V0 and it prints Average: 0.00 MB/s
Deanjo: You can email them at support@unigine.com
Marox: mayby i should fire off a bug report to ati/amd too :)
Deanjo: That's what I did for my bug with it. Fired one off to them and nvidia.
Deanjo: As always, be as detailed as you possibly can. It doesn't hurt to fire off your xorg logs and conf as well.
Deanjo: Too many times I have seen people screaming "XYZ company won't #$%#$%#$% respond!" and their bug reports tend to be a rant without providing any real usable info on the issue, which is why they tend to go unanswered to.
Deanjo: Heh, that was a fast response from uningine. http://pastebin.com/m38921c8b
Deanjo: 2 minute turn around time
Marox: wow
Deanjo: demands faster turn around time :P
Deanjo: Now if only I could get the goofs at ALSA to repond as quick
Deanjo: michaellarabel, have you seen this? http://www.anandtech.com/linux/showdoc.aspx?i=2229&p=2
Deanjo: Could add some very nice capabilities to PTS
Deanjo: the freshmeat page http://freshmeat.net/projects/anandtechframegetter/
Marox: see you later...
michaellarabel: deanjo, yeah framegetter is really old
Plouj: aha, the iozone benchmark doesn't work at all, it seems
Plouj: :/
Plouj: michaellarabel: do you know where I can find documentation about bonnie and the TEST_TYPE file?
Plouj: it doesn't seem to be mentioned in the manpage that comes with the PTS test
michaellarabel: bonnie runs everything and TEST_TYPE is just used by the results parser to know what to extract
michaellarabel: look in pts/test-resources/bonnie/
Plouj: oh, I forgot about that directory
Plouj: and I just noticed why iozone didn't seem to work for me
Plouj: $BENCHMARK_RESULTS = substr($argv[1], strrpos($argv[1], " 904800 "));
Plouj: my test runs obviously didn't output that value!
michaellarabel: ah
Plouj: humm, I might have to learn some php
michaellarabel: Plouj: Quite easy to learn
Plouj: is there a git repo for the actual tests used in PTS?
michaellarabel: right now it's all within phoronix-test-suite.git
Deanjo: Turbo Pascal 4ever :P
Plouj: oh wait, the stuff in test-resources _creates_ the stuff in installed-tests, right/
Plouj: haha, this is the second time I got confused :p
michaellarabel: Plouj: Yes
Plouj: is there something special I have to enable in X to allow xvmc playback?
Plouj: it failed on my fedora9 machine with proprietary nvidia drivers
Deanjo: What video card?
Deanjo: 8x00 series plus do not have xvmc playback
Plouj: 8400 GS :(
Plouj: humm
Deanjo: That would be why then
Plouj: I'm also not getting any xvmc playback on a UniChrome via chip
Plouj: michaellarabel: do I have to re-install the iozone test or do something if I've changed phoronix-test-suite/pts/test-resources/iozone/parse-results.php?
michaellarabel: No need to reinstall.
michaellarabel: PTS will automatically reinstall if you've changed something that would impact the installation.
Deanjo: It's like a borg that way :P
Plouj: humm
Plouj: where's the code that calls the parse-results?
michaellarabel: pts-core/functions/pts-functions-run.php
Plouj: ok
Plouj: are the rest results piped to the parse-results or are they given to it as the 1st argument?
Deanjo: "PTS-Built with Borg nanoprobes"
Plouj: I can't believe my shell can handle such huge arguments even
Plouj: wow, I IOzone reports 1187.06MB/s read performance...
Deanjo: Grrr, why can't I find a bloody N.A. reseller for Aquagrafx stuff?
Deanjo: KDE 3.5.10 is due tomorrow.... w00t!
Kano: hi
Kano: todays kenrel git requires a new fglrx hack...
Kano: just updated my fglrx script, i needed to disable 2 fglrx sysrq hacks, did somebody know of sysrq-l and q? l dumps some registers it seems
Kano: err not q, it was g
Kano: fglrx adds g and l
Kano: register_sysrq_key('g', &sysrq_fgldbg_op);
Kano: g maybe debug
Kano: register_sysrq_key('l', &sysrq_fgldump_op);
Kano: l dump
Kano: if somebody wants to play with it ;)
Kano: michaellarabel: are you registered to get nvidia pre release drivers?
Kano: http://developer.nvidia.com/object/downloading_drivers.html
michaellarabel: Kano, yes
Kano: did you check if new drivers are there
michaellarabel: Not any there
Kano: i guess there will be only development drivers for opengl 3 because it is not backwards compatible. for win you have to switch to opengl 3 mode with an extra tool
Kano: similar to that perfkit drivers, which i did not get what the extra debug info should show me which could be enabled with some env vars
