Phoronix IRC Log: 2008-08-15

Xemanth: starkmjolk: life is really hard on me, now that mobo costs 79e where i ordered it :| I think I need cancel the order and order GA-MA78GPM-DS2H which costs 89e (10e more than the cheaper)
Xemanth: does anybody know what gigabyte's ultra durable 2 is ?
Xemanth: starkmjolk: i changed my order to GA-MA78GPM-DS2H which has 128 Mb DDR3 sideport memory, dual bios and ultra durable 2
Derander: Is anyone here familiar with working with the HDD version of expressgate?
redeeman: kano, but he isn't here right now
redeeman: and he went to be quite late, so will probablt not be here for hours
redeeman: to bed*
Derander: Alright
Derander: Thanks for letting me know :-0
Derander: I'm going to pop off - need to get somes files off of an ext3 partition.
Derander: Toodles :-)
starkmjolk: Xemanth: ah, I think that will be a good board. wasn't available when I bought mine but I would've taken it if it had been :)
Ivanovic: moin
starkmjolk: morning :)
Kano: hi
Kano: hi redeeman ,did you find a good test movie?
Kano: redeeman: btw. did you see 8800 gts 512 bulk for 99 euro: http://www.amazon.de/exec/obidos/tg/detail/offer-listing/-/B000ZNRI2U/new
Kano: really cheap, my was about 220 euro...
maligor: not bad
Kano: you might even think about sli ;)
Deanjo: You take a look in the badaboom folder yet Kano?
mingdao: Hello.
Deanjo: Alot of FOSS stuff in there
Kano: nope, but i found out that the input is critical, it does not take everything - av sync is not optimal
mingdao: Can someone tell me where to get the php5-gd source?
Kano: you mean ffmpeg
Kano: well the audio part is what is not working optimal ;)
Deanjo: ya
mingdao: Not a Debian, Ubuntu, or OpenSuse package.
Deanjo: Got to start pestering them about the source
mingdao: I run Slackware.
mingdao: Maybe I just missed it, or didn't Google well enough.
michaellarabel: mingdao: http://us.php.net/manual/en/image.setup.php
mingdao: Thank you, michaellarabel
mingdao: Maybe I've already got it on my system: /usr/lib/php/extensions/gd.so
mingdao: Yes, I've got it.
mingdao: Just didn't know what I was looking for.
michaellarabel: Okay
mingdao: I was looking for some OSS software to test video cards.
mingdao: When I loaded KDE4.1 on my test box yesterday, it began locking up.
mingdao: After a fresh install going back to KDE3 today, it did it loading seamonkey.
mingdao: Memory tests okay -- think the old AGP card is gone.
Plouj: is there a way to run the tests/suites such that the user isn't asked for any information at all?
Plouj: or at most, asked for it up-front
Ivanovic: Plouj: batch-run
Plouj: ah, that's what I just discovered
Plouj: but howcome it doesn't run multiple tests if I specify more than one on the command line?
Ivanovic: because you can only specify one
Ivanovic: that is what is read
Ivanovic: everything else is ignored
Plouj: should I define a test suite to overcome this?
Ivanovic: yes, with a testsuite you can overcome this
michaellarabel: Any questions?
Ivanovic: nah, a feature request:
Ivanovic: make it possible to read >1 argument after the bin
Ivanovic: to eg run 5 tests
Ivanovic: or install 2 suites with just one line
michaellarabel: That can be done relatively easily
Ivanovic: yeah, that is why it should be done
Ivanovic: ;)
Kano: so no new wine today because the one who is releasing it usually is on holiday *g*
Plouj: maybe his robot companion can do it
Ivanovic: are the releases not done by cronjobs?
Ivanovic: ;)
Kano: did you read about 177.83 (for win)
Kano: there is a tool to switch between opengl 2 and 3 for it
Kano: did anybody programm a win app with support for uac yet?
maligor: Kano, they broke compability?
Kano: well when you want to control the bootmgr or copy files to certain places an app has to use uac
Kano: i wrote a tiny script that can install grub2 with vista, but it only works from cli or when you disable uac
Kano: so i need a wrapper
Kano: Deanjo: could you take a screenshot with that sli hud enabled?
maligor: Kano, I meant opengl 2/3, here was me thinking the changes weren't that big
Kano: well opengl 3 leaves out many older functions
Kano: which are replaced by others
Plouj: http://rafb.net/p/oq47zQ66.html :(
Plouj: I wonder what caused that
Plouj: stange, I added an echo command before the su command in pts/distro-scripts/install-fedora-packages.sh but it isn't being printed before I'm prompted for the password
wiscados: what driver should you use for a gforce 6100 card?
gentooer: wiscados, nouveau if you're only using 2d, nvidia binary if you want 3d
wiscados: ok, what about nv?
gentooer: wiscados, i would not recommend nv. it only supports 2d and poorly at that. nouveau is much better
wiscados: ok, thanks
cxo: wiscados, maybe look at the various mount options for iso
DaskreecH: Hall
DaskreecH: +o
DaskreecH: is ASUS the only person allowed to sell splashtop MoBos?
DaskreecH: phxlogger: hello
michaellarabel: Hi
DaskreecH: hi michaellarabel
DaskreecH: how are things?
DaskreecH: busy as per usual? :)
michaellarabel: Yes, very busy, but good considering.
DaskreecH: excellent :)
DaskreecH: Do you know of the relationship that splashtop has with ASUS?
DaskreecH: Splashtop seems open to any manufacturer but only ASUS ships with them
michaellarabel: Regarding your ASUS question, ASUS is just DeviceVM's first OEM partner. DeviceVM is working with other companies too, but ASUS is the most prevalent right now.
DaskreecH: Dell is shipping what looks like splashtop on their laptops now
michaellarabel: no
michaellarabel: It's not SplashTop
DaskreecH: Though very obviously not labeled as such
DaskreecH: I thought not
DaskreecH: Similar design ?
michaellarabel: Similar but based upon their own system
DaskreecH: thats good
DaskreecH: really what I want is an AMD system with splashtop and ASUS seems reluctant to grant wishes :(
DaskreecH: michaellarabel: Oh do you have any good articles on Fusion and Cinema 2.0 ?
michaellarabel: Go to the Events section for a brief launch event article
