Kano: hi
shital_: hello
Kano: hi shital_
shital_: hello Kano
shital_: where r u from?
Kano: not from india as you ;)
shital_: :)
shital_: ohhh how u come to know?
Kano: i can read ip adresses ;)
shital_: ohh, great
shital_: how can u differentiate IPs??
Kano: first i look at your ip, then i call whois with it, thats all
Kano: the country is easy to find out
shital_: ok nice to know
Kano: when you can identify parts of the routing then you can even know the next huger city or so
shital_: u r from Berlin right?
Kano: nope, but germany is not so huge *g*
Kano: still a few hundred km wrong *g*
shital_: ok,
shital_: u came to India??
Kano: nope, and will never ;)
shital_: ohhhh, u r angry on India??
Kano: i dont need holy cows ;)
shital_: ohh
rramalho: morning :)
Kano: hi rramalho
shital_: Hi Kano I installed VirtualBox on my Suse-10.3 now i want to install the Splashtop in Virtual Box
shital_: but how do i enable usb stick into virtual Box, as there is no support for the same in open source version of Virtual Box?
Kano: shital_: not in the opensource version but you can use script b) + i can give you a vmdk to start that directly, more easy to mod instead of converting it always to vmdk
Kano: you need 256 or more ram for it
redeeman: Kano: re: those sil controllers - so those won't do what i need?
Kano: redeeman: these are not controllers, these are storage processors, which split 1 existing sata port into 2
redeeman: wtf
Kano: and those ports come usually from the same chip as for the ide controller, most likely marvel or jmicron
redeeman: insanity
Kano: sil has a special mode which can build raid upon those, when you disable it you have got more or less direct access to the underlying controller
redeeman: great, then i need to find some pcie controllers and then just get a normal board
redeeman: but only for 1 disk?
Kano: i am sure the board would work
Kano: when you configure it correctly in bios
redeeman: who the hell would be crazy enough to use such a chip?!
redeeman: they must seriously be having some strong drugs down there
Kano: well somebody just bought a p45 board and uses that
Kano: with kanotix even *g*
redeeman: bottomline it for me, do i get 10 separate devices linux see ? :)
Kano: sure
redeeman: and no weird sil closed steelvine apps or anything?
Kano: set it correclty in the bios
Kano: or well buy a sata controller and use basic board
redeeman: which p45 board did that guy buy?
redeeman: and also, what is it one must set in bios?
Kano: a msi one with 4 pci slots
redeeman: and also, if it just passes through, doesent the underlying controller only have 2 sata ports?
Kano: usually
Kano: 2x2 = 4 so you get 4+6
redeeman: ah so they actually have 2 of those underlying controllers?
Kano: well the standard chips have got 2 sata+ide
redeeman: i just really hope that stuff is stable
redeeman: i must say, i don't have much faith in those INSANE things
Kano: MSI P45 Neo3-FR
Kano: that was his board, good layout basically
Kano: if you like pci...
redeeman: i don't particularly care about pci either way
Kano: i have got 4 pci cards running: isdn (to check driver), 2x dvb, 1x sb live
redeeman: i currently in my old workstation have an analog tv tuner, but i don't use it
redeeman: damn im rested now :)
Kano: analog is out
redeeman: me went to bed 22:00 last night and just woke up now when i ping'ed you :P
Kano: not bad ;)
shital_: Kano I dont know how to use this .vmdk
redeeman: yeah well i didn't sleep the night before :D
Kano: shital_: same dir with img file
Kano: then you can add it as hd to vbox
Kano: with script b) you can make the img file bootable
Kano: using grub
shital_: in script u mensioned FILE.IMG which one i have to use??
Kano: the one you have
Kano: ST*.IMG
Kano: the images always begin with ST
Kano: the vmdk has it precoded too, hopefully you found the same ;)
shital_: ST_ASUSEG00_HD_v1.2.8.0_20080709.EXE this one u r telling about???
shital_: but this is .EXE
Kano: well exe is usally to install inside win
Kano: you can install that inside a virual windows too + use grub2 to start
shital_: i already installed Virtual windows XP but i am not able to access the USB
shital_: so that directly i can click to run
Kano: vbox sets xp to use only 192mb, raise that wirst
Kano: you can drag/drop the exe and install that there
Kano: or use sharedfolders
Kano: yesterday i wrote a script for vista too, but that requires start from commandline or you have to disable uac first
shital_: ok
shital_: the thing is that i am new to Virtual box lots confusion, but i installed XP, and its working fine, but i dont all these configurations
Kano: somehow when you run a script as admin it does not find the files which have been in the same dir
shital_: ok
Kano: did you install vbox addons?
shital_: no i think
Kano: thats stupid, then you can not use lots of the features
shital_: ok ok
shital_: then i will install
Kano: not needed for splashtop, but much more complicated to get files in there, well you can run samba or ftp or whatever externally
Kano: for kanotix i provide the instructions in the bot, how to install vbox + enable usb support
Kano: but i dont use suse ;)
shital_: ok
shital_: which package i have to install for vbox addons??
Kano: use full vbox not crippled oss version
Kano: then you can install it from a menu entry
shital_: Kano :> how can increase the virtual disk size is that possible??
Kano: shital_: good question, next one ;)
shital_: what????
Kano: i never resized vdi files
shital_: ok
shital_: this Qn, comes bcz, i am facing lack of space to install Splashtop
shital_: :)
shital_: Kano:> in Xp i have to install only ST*.exe or AsusSetup.exe too???
Kano: the asus tool only calls the st exe
Kano: useless ;)
Kano: btw. know i know where to put the desktop files to see an icon
Kano: http://www.phoronix.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11800
Kano: f) is for icons...
shital_: Kano i installed splashtop on my Virtual Xp its running too
shital_: :)
Kano: what nic did you enable inside vbox
shital_: but its going up to first page i mean page where we can select the options, if i select "Enter OS" its getting hanged
Kano: you have less than 256 mb ram
Kano: for your vm
Kano: add more
shital_: yess exactly
Kano: 256 is minimum
shital_: how can i add it?
Kano: change vm settings
shital_: how much i should allocate for best performance?
Kano: well i use 512
Kano: 256 is minimum
shital_: ok, then what Vedio memory??
Kano: which kind of nic did you enable? pcnet32 or e1000?
shital_: how much that should be?
Kano: video ram is ok, that default
shital_: ok
shital_: i enabled PCnet-FAST iii (NAT)
Kano: michaellarabel: i can now even change the first menu, it is created by serveral gif images in the skin0000.bin file, it is possible to extract em (just seek for GIF89a header for each one) of course they could be replaced by smaller ones
Kano: my own gfx look really bad, basically just a technology demonstration ;)
michaellarabel: okay, cool
Kano: do you have got a vbox or other test environment
michaellarabel: Yes
Kano: accept the files
Kano: with it you can start rox directly from first menu. it looks awfull i know ;)
Kano: do you test it on real hw?
Kano: i have lots of extra drivers, incl. all intel wifi, for all common nic and overrides for screenres
Kano: just tell me what driver you need
Kano: that you can change the textfile in custom dir to have a unique message you know already,do you?
Kano: http://www.phoronix.com/forums/showthread.php?p=41262
Kano: everything you need to do that on your own you find at position g)
Deanjo: starts a petition to get rid of dead code on the net...... it's plugging up the "tubes"
jacques: anyone else getting lots of oopses with the recent ATI drivers?
Deanjo: Your talking about the fireglx's?
shital_: Hi
shital_: I installed Splashtop on my XP, when i click EnterOS button it is hanging RAM is 1gb??
