Phoronix IRC Log: 2008-08-03

evocallaghan: Hello
evocallaghan: You guys are a little behind the times
evocallaghan: New PC-BSD Alpha ISO is out with the KDE4.1 proper release intergrated now
evocallaghan: http://www.pcbsd.org/images/pcbsd7-alpha.png <-- Screen shot
evocallaghan: ftp://ftp.pcbsd.org/pub/alpha-isos/i386/ <-- ISO's
evocallaghan: Its also worth noting that ZFS is now a option in the Installer and they need more feedback on it.
evocallaghan: That would be all.
Kano: who did try splashtop and had no wifi?
michaellarabel: Anyone want to see a really cool OpenGL benchmark?
redeeman: sure
michaellarabel: With PTS we've been working the developer behind this http://dee.cz/lightsmark/ to bring it to Linux. This morning the first public release of the Linux version is out. This test is quite incredible.
Erektium: will PTS have GUI someday?
michaellarabel: Erektium: Vadim is currently working on the GUI, I still haven't hooked it all in yet. It will probably end up in PTS 1.4.
redeeman: but it's released in binary form only?
michaellarabel: Good question.. Reading the readme, makes it sound like it may be open-source, but I haven't discussed it with Stepan whether or not it's OSS.
Erektium: 'mmkay
michaellarabel: Mainly due to lack of developers / time by me too, is why it's not done yet.
vadi2: Hi
michaellarabel: Erektium, vadi2 is the GUI designer.
Erektium: ok =)
vadi2: Erektium: The GUI is designed and complete for the most part. Just needs a coder to make it "alive".
vadi2: So if you know php and gtk, feel free to dive in...
Erektium: ^^
redeeman: so where can we see this design?
maligor: I don't see how you can get a solution with infinite light bounces
vadi2: redeeman: it's been available in the git for a very long while now.
michaellarabel: vadi2: You still have screenshots though?
vadi2: Probably somewhere in the email, and chances are they'll be a bit outdated as I did some tweaks since I did them
Zool^: is vsync default off in the nvidia linux driver?
jramskov: that opengl benchmark looks pretty cool
maligor: Zool^, probably
maligor: enabling it by default would cause many people of the Clueless to complain why their framerates are so low
Ivanovic: michaellarabel: so this new test is already included in trondheim-12?
michaellarabel: Ivanovic: It will be once I rebase 1.0.5 today
Ivanovic: great
michaellarabel: To any PTS git users.... trondheim-12 has been merged back into master and 1.0 is now in pts-trondheim branch
Ivanovic: so now we should stick to master when we want the latest changes?
michaellarabel: yes, I think it will finally stick to master... fixing the repo right now
evocallaghan: michaellarabel:Hi
evocallaghan: michaellarabel:Don't know if you got my news update but look up earler today ^
Ivanovic: michaellarabel: how to force reinstall tests?
Ivanovic: when just running phoronix-test-suite install build-apache, i do get this: build-apache is already installed, skipping installation routine...
michaellarabel: phoronix-test-suite force-install build-apache
Ivanovic: michaellarabel: maybe you should document this option, too
Ivanovic: ;)
michaellarabel: Isn't it?
Ivanovic: uhm, no
Ivanovic: i don't see it listed when running phoronix-test-suite without any command
michaellarabel: It may be just in the extended documentation then
Ivanovic: michaellarabel: since my last update of PTS some new "external dependencies" are about to be installed
Ivanovic: *which* new deps are needed for ut2004-demo?!?
michaellarabel: libstdc++5
michaellarabel: Ivanovic: Is it running yet?
hbbs: i just installed the phoroix-test-suit latest version on intrepid
hbbs: got this error trying to run
hbbs: phoronix-test-suite install-all
hbbs: [: 30: de: unexpected operator
hbbs: Could not open input file: pts-core/pts-run-cmd.php
hbbs: anyone?
Ivanovic: i don't have this one explicitly installed still it works...
michaellarabel: installed from git or how?
Ivanovic: git version of pts
hbbs: .deb package right from the site
Ivanovic: it asked for my password (probably to try installing something via portage) but i did not enter it
michaellarabel: okay
michaellarabel: then it must be Gentoo already ships with what's needed
Ivanovic: so if it really needed something, it should have stopped
Ivanovic: instead everything is installed and *working* correctly
michaellarabel: k
redeeman: gentoo doesent ship with 1 needed thing
redeeman: /usr/bin/time
redeeman: one must manually install that (well.. there is an ebuild ofcourse :))
Ivanovic: okay, here it is not explicitly named libstdc++5 but part of virtual/libstdc++-3.3 which (here) defaults to installing sys-libs/libstdc++-v3-3.3.6
michaellarabel: aj
michaellarabel: ah*
Ivanovic: so it is basically just something in the pts detection not working perfectly, since i have the stuff installed via emerge anyway (have ut2004 installed via portage)
michaellarabel: Well, PTS will never use ut2004-demo from portage
Ivanovic: redeeman: that is why i wrote the ebuild
michaellarabel: since for that its all done from the package
Ivanovic: michaellarabel: yes, but the dependencies that are installed for ut2004
michaellarabel: ah
Ivanovic: :)
michaellarabel: Ivanovic: With Malvik, the $HOME directory is now being set as you requested befire
Ivanovic: great
Ivanovic: keine ahnung
Ivanovic: ups. wonrg tab...
