Phoronix IRC Log: 2008-08-01

laga: hey. does anyone have the URL to the boxee source code?
michaellarabel: laga, tell me your email address and I can send you an invite link
michaellarabel: Laga, check your email, should have an invite
laga: thanks!
laga: that'
laga: s an awful lot of information they need just to let me download a GPL'ed app. heh :)
Kano: Deanjo: do you have got the splashtop sources from the wikipedia link or from a mail?
vadi2: Does anyone one at least one video editor that can import and with with a .ogg?
Kano: maybe audacity?
vadi2: Isn't that an audio editor?
Kano: or just decode it
Kano: hmm video, well best decode
vadi2: I don't want to lose the quality.
Kano: when you have got wav you dont loose anything, only when you recode to mp3
vadi2: videooo
vadi2: it's an ogg video
Kano: hmm
Kano: avidemux?
vadi2: "Attempt to open /home/vadi/shatter-demo.ogg failed!"
vadi2: "Could not open the file"
vadi2: I tried every editor I found in synaptic. I'm perplexed as to why didn't a single one work an "open" or whatever format :(
Kano: maybe it was created with cli tools
vadi2: With what?
Kano: dont know, but mencoder could convert it on the fly ;)
vadi2: I just need to edit it
Kano: if you use copy mode you would have got the same file just as avi
Kano: no ogg container
vadi2: ok. know the magic words?
Kano: copy does not change the data
Kano: mencoder -oac copy -ovc copy file
Kano: mencoder -oac copy -ovc copy -o movie.avi file
vadi2: thanks
vadi2: which one is the ogg
Kano: file
vadi2: k
Kano: that converts ogg to avi container, if needed you could convert it to mpeg4 too ;)
vadi2: Well. It said a lot of "Skipping frame!"
Kano: does not matter, try playback of result
vadi2: and I got a 4kb avi file that doesn't play
Kano: hmm but mplayer can playback it?
vadi2: movie player, vlc can
Kano: and mplayer?
Kano: you can change copy to lavc to try
Kano: in both cases
vadi2: getting mplayer
vadi2: That seems to be working (lavc)
vadi2: that kinda killed my quality badly. but it did reduce the size by 10 times
Kano: sure, without options it is pretty bad
Kano: you have to add extra options
vadi2: yeah that's where I fail, because all I want to begin with is add a title. not read the mencoder manual :(
maikmerten: vadi2, perhaps you want to try oggsplit
maikmerten: http://svn.xiph.org/trunk/ogg-tools/oggsplit/oggsplit.c
Deanjo: Kano, I got the splashtop sources from the mail when I signed up for them on the splashtop site.
Deanjo: goes back to getting XBMC onto splashtop
