C-Ray, one of the most interesting multi-threaded test cases, was noticeably faster for the ray-tracing workload than VirtualBox.
Smallpt also won with VMware.
PostgreSQL was faster with VMware Fusion over VirtualBox on the 2012 Apple MacBook Pro with Retina Display.
The Apache performance with VMware Fusion completely annihilated VirtualBox.
For nearly all of the workloads tested, VMware Fusion was significantly faster than Oracle VirtualBox. It's just not with OpenGL/graphics workloads where VMware is superior to Oracle's multi-platform virtualization offering. In particular, it appears with the multi-threaded workloads where VMware has a majority of its performance advantage over VirtualBox.
