Looking at the Java computational performance, when the ray-tracing-based Sunflow Rendering System, 23 seconds were needed on average to carry out the Sunflow test under OS X compared to 36 seconds on Ubuntu 9.04. This is quite the difference.

The file encryption time under the Java-based Bork File Encrypter was 157 seconds with Mac OS X and under Ubuntu it was 173 seconds. Again, another win for Apple's operating system.

Ubuntu 9.04 busted out with a strong lead when it came to the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) performance in the Java version of SciMark. Ubuntu 9.04 was at 277 Mflops while Mac OS X 10.5.6 was at 91 Mflops.
