MP3 encoding using LAME was also faster under Ubuntu 9.10 by about 3%.

Video encoding using FFmpeg to convert an AVI file to an NTSC VCD was also faster on Ubuntu 9.10 Alpha 1 by about 3% compared to Ubuntu 9.04.

Crafty, which is an open-source chess engine, was faster by about 4% under the Karmic Koala.
