HD Video Playback With A $20 CPU & $30 GPU On Linux

Moving away from H.264 and to MPEG playback we have another sample video file with a resolution of 704 x 576. Like the other graphs presented thus far, first is without VDPAU and then below that is the VDPAU result.

Without VDPAU the CPU utilization started out at 6% and its average over the course of two minutes was around 10%.

The CPU usage was initially high when starting our VDPAU MPEG test run, but it quickly zeroed out and only spiked once before returning to barely using the processor at all.
