The battery consumption could not be monitored due to ACPI limitations, but we were able to monitor the CPU and GPU temperatures while carrying out different tasks with the Phoronix Test Suite. Below you can see the Intel Core 2 Quad Q9000 and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280M temperatures when running the video-cpu-usage test profile with VDPAU.
As you can see, the CPU and GPU fluctuated very little when it came to the temperature during video playback. The CPU was at about 38°C while the GPU was comfortably at 44°C. Next, we switched to the Lightsmark test profile for some OpenGL operations while continuing to measure the CPU and GPU temperatures.
Both the CPU and GPU temperatures rose a fair amount when running Lightsmark 2008 for its six minute test. The GeForce GTX 280M started out at about 50°C but by the end of the testing it had risen above 74°C, which is a bit warm especially for a notebook that may be on your lap. The Intel Core 2 Quad Q9000 started out at about 40°C and it ended hitting above 60°C a few times during the testing but ended out at around 50°C.
