OpenArena 0.8.8 is much more demanding on the GPU than the earlier releases of this ioquake3 first person shooter, but suspending the effects also resulted in a performance improvement. It is interesting for AMD Catalyst that XRender compositing is causing a performance drop.

World of Padman, another ioquake3 game, shares a similar story to OpenArena.
