Intel Los Lunas 2, Ivy Bridge Details

As the latest chapter of the pre-launch Intel Ivy Bridge story, here's some details on Intel's Ivy Bridge reference motherboard, the Los Lunas 2 with the Panther Point chipset. There is also some cpuinfo data on one of the forthcoming Ivy Bridge models.

First, here is the /proc/cpuinfo on one of the Intel Ivy Bridge processors that will be available at launch. This Ivy Bridge engineering CPU has a 2.2GHz base frequency and is a quad-core party with Hyper Threading as the detail shows. There is 8MB of L3 cache like the other Ivy Bridge CPUs. The CPU scaling available frequencies exposed for this CPU with the Linux 3.2 kernel on Ubuntu 12.04 is in 100MHz steps from 1.6GHz to 2.2GHz, according to the reported Linux kernel information.

As far as the CPU flags, it is all in line with expectations, as are the other reported CPU attributes. The performance results from this CPU on the Los Lunas 2 were quite impressive, at least for the limited results I have seen. Below is the PCI information output (lspci) for Intel's Los Lunas 2. Los Lunas 2 is Intel's Customer Reference Board (CRB) for the Panther Point chipset with Ivy Bridge CPUs. This output shows some of the PCI IDs and other information on some of the motherboard's components.

The Intel Ivy Bridge CPU and Los Lunas 2 motherboard did work with Ubuntu 12.04 LTS "Precise Pangolin" out-of-the-box, but for best results you'll obviously want to be using the very latest Linux kernel, GCC/LLVM compiler, and other components due to the ongoing performance optimizations and other work. There will be plenty more Intel Ivy Bridge Linux information when the hardware is officially launched in the coming months, besides the pre-launch Linux support information and other details. I've been writing about the work-in-progress open-source Ivy Bridge Linux support since last April.
