The VP8 test profile isn't multi-threaded and here the i5-3470 was the surprising front-runner.

For the x264 video encoding workload, however, the i5-3470 returned to being slightly in front of the i5-2500K while the quad-core i7-3770K with Hyper Threading was well in front.

It's a similar story for 7-Zip compression.

The Intel Core i5 3470 is capable of building out the mainline Linux kernel from source in just under two minutes.
