Moving away from the disk tests, the 7-Zip compression test was the same for the T60 and T61 ThinkPads, but the EliteBook favored Fedora 15 by about 12% for this CPU-focused test.

The x264 video encoding performance was mostly indifferent between the two tested distributions.

Running LAME would lock-up Fedora 15 each time on Fedora 15 for the Sandy Bridge notebook, but it ran fine under Ubuntu 11.04 and on the other test systems. On those other systems, Fedora 15 was diminutively slower than Ubuntu Natty.
