In the John The Ripper tests, Debian GNU/Linux with the 3.2 kernel was faster than the FreeBSD 9.0-1-amd64 kernel.

OpenSSL was significantly faster (3.45x) on Debian Linux than with the FreeBSD kernel, while again both had the same GCC 4.6 compiler.
