Our final QGears2 test was with the image scaling test while still using its X Render back-end. The xf86-video-ati driver was once again in first place. At image scaling, the open-source ATI driver was about 13% faster.
Considering the importance of X Render and 2D acceleration for the Linux desktop, we continued to look at its performance with the JXRenderMark test. The open-source ATI driver continued to remain in front of the Catalyst driver when it came to simple 128x128px rects.
