The AMD FX-8150 took the cake when it came to basic video encoding with FFmpeg where it was much faster than all of the Intel CPUs and earlier generations of AMD CPUs.

The FX-8150 also produced favorable results with H.264 video encoding via x264.

Most dealing with molecular biology will be using AMD Opteron or Intel Xeon workstations, but when running the MAFFT alignment test on the FX-8150 it was slower than Intel Sandy Bridge and Gulftown CPUs while coming just in front of the sub-3GHz Bloomfield.
