AMD's New Catalyst Linux Driver Isn't Too Good

As can be seen right away with the Doom 3 results, the new AMD Catalyst Linux Beta driver can actually lead to Linux gaming slowdowns. The three Radeon HD 5000/6000/7000 graphics cards were all noticeably slower with fglrx 9.1.11 rather than with the fglrx 9.0.2 as originally found in Ubuntu 12.10.

With the now defunct Nexuiz game, the Evergreen and Northern Islands graphics cards were running at the same speeds relative to the earlier Catalyst Linux release, but the Southern Islands (HD 7950) graphics card had regressed noticeably.
