For seeing how well the Catalyst driver releases did in 2013, I pulled out an AMD Radeon HD 7950 -- a graphics card I purchased last year and is compatible with all of the driver releases being tested today. The Radeon R9 290 support sadly only extends back a few months but I will have out more R9 290 Linux benchmarks once AMD issues any major Catalyst driver updates.

Testing of the Catalyst drivers was limited to those still offered via AMD.com for download and included the Catalyst 13.1, Catalyst 13.4, and Catalyst 13.11 Beta v9.4 drivers that had worked on the test system. The test system was the same as used in the NVIDIA 2013 Year-In-Review and included a Core i7 3770K Ivy Bridge system running Ubuntu 12.10.

You can benchmark your system against these results by installing the Phoronix Test Suite and running phoronix-test-suite benchmark 1312085-SO-AMDRADEON86.
