When it comes to the design of the Nitrogon NT06, SilverStone had brought back the design of the NT01 -- SilverStone's first CPU heatsink -- and it was modified to offer more than twice the surface area. The SilverStone NT01 used powder heatpipes (rather than liquid heatpipes), and its design was truly unique for its time. The dimensions for the NT06 heatsink are 125.4 x 78 x 148 mm and its weight (excluding the fan) is 570 grams. The NT06 weighs substantially less than the NT02, which had weighed in at a massive 880 grams. The Nitrogon NT06 does look faintly similar to Thermalright's SI-120 and XP-120 heatsinks.
At the bottom of the SilverStone Nitrogon NT06 is a copper base, which during our examination was incredibly flat with no major imperfections to the human eye. Around the heatsink base are various holes for use with the mounting hardware depending upon the CPU socket. The processor sockets supported by the NT06 are Intel Socket 478, Intel LGA-775, and AMD Socket 754/939/940. Unfortunately AMD's Socket AM2 is not supported by the NT06 heatsink -- at least without any modifications. On top of the heatsink base are a series of aluminum fins for improved heat dissipation. Protruding from the side of the heatsink are copper heatpipes that loop to a series of copper fins. These three heatpipes are 8mm thick and use a powder design.
With the upper set of fins is a shroud for attaching a 120mm fan. The fan included with the NT06 is the SilverStone FM122. The SilverStone 120mm FM122 can provide a maximum airflow of 107.13 CFM @ 42.2 dBA. The fan does use dual ball bearings and supports adjusting the fan speed from an available expansion slot.
