Xonotic 0.5 also boasts optimized post-processing effects (including damage blur, bloom, and HDR). There is also new texture packs, improved AI for bots, new game modes, hundreds of bug-fixes, and other renderer improvements. The download size of Xonotic 0.5 is just under 1GB.

Read more about Xonotic 0.5 in the project's blog post. For years now Nexuiz has led when it comes to offering impressive graphics and raising the bar for open-source gaming. The developers now with Xonotic have continued to push the open-source gaming limits even greater with Xonotic 0.5.

It is exciting to see many improvements with this release, especially with support for vehicles, new game modes, and the engine improvements that have been mad in recent months. Replacing Nexuiz, Xonotic easily feels like one of the most professional open-source first person shooter (FPS) games. The gameplay is terrific as are their visuals, considering the DarkPlaces engine powers it.

Xonotic 0.5 is available at no cost and official game clients are available for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux.
