Up for viewing today are benchmarks of Scientific Linux 6.1, openSUSE 11.4, Ubuntu 10.04.3 LTS, and Ubuntu 11.10. This is the latest in the series of Ubuntu 11.10 benchmarks after looking at the power consumption, boot speed, performance relative to Sabayon 7, and virtualization performance.

Scientific Linux 6.1, openSUSE 11.4, Ubuntu 10.04.3 LTS, and Ubuntu 11.10 were all tested with their 64-bit versions and with the stock packages / settings. The test system was an Intel Core i7 990X "Gulftown" setup with Radeon HD 4870 graphics.

This comparison is just about showing the out-of-the-box performance for these four popular Linux distribution releases.

The Phoronix Test Suite was used for automating the tests in a reproducible manner across Ubuntu, openSUSE, and Scientific Linux / RHEL.
