When using KVM virtualization, the time it took to compile ImageMagick was close to the speed of the host operating system. VirtualBox, however, had required significantly more time -- it was more than five times slower.

There was a noticeable difference in speed between the Ubuntu 9.04 host and the KVM virtualized guest, but the Kernel-based Virtual Machine was far in front of VirtualBox. VirtualBox was quite slow in comparison.

With the Dhrystone 2 performance, the level of performance across the three tested settings had performed close to the same level.

Sun xVM VirtualBox actually wound up with the best Fast Fourier Transform performance, even ahead of the Ubuntu 9.04 host, with SciMark 2.0.
