Next up is a look at the thermal performance and power consumption when running the Unigine Tropics benchmark at 1024 x 768.

Radeon HD 6450

The passively cooled PowerColor Radeon HD 6450 under load had a similar core operating temperature to the NVIDIA GeForce GT 520. The average temperature of the Radeon HD 6450 is 64°C, which is a bit warm, but was below the passively cooled Sapphire Radeon HD 5450 with its average temperature at 70°C. The actively cooled Radeon and GeForce graphics cards were all much cooler.

The average system power consumption (as measured by the WattsUp USB power meter interfacing with the Phoronix Test Suite) was 130 Watts from this AMD Fusion A8-3850 desktop when using the Radeon HD 6450. This is right around the same power level as the Radeon HD 5450 and GeForce GT 240. The Radeon HD 6450 is rated to idle at 9 Watts and under load should pull around 27 Watts.
