Liberated Pixel Cup - Free Software Game Reviews

Posted by Michael Larabel on August 20, 2012

The Liberated Pixel Cup has been going on since April as a free-as-in-freedom game development competition being hosted by the Free Software Foundation, Creative Commons, and OpenGameArt. For those more (or equally) interested in the license of the game rather than quality, here are some reviews of the different Liberated Pixel Cup submissions.

Over on K3rnel.net are game reviews of many of the Liberated Pixel Cup submissions.

Reviews so far from these open-source 2D games (3D artwork isn't allowed for the contest) include BitBrawl, Chickenpix, Concave, Dungeon Tactics, Bright Flame Tactics, Artificer's Quest, Lurking Patrol Comrades, Blood Moon, Learn2D, Blob Mobs, Archer Man, A(lchemist), Song of Blood, Pixel Quest, Forge, Crossword Maze, Liberate Pixil Quest, AfterImage, Big Island, Farm Taken Over, Slime Attack, Monk Story, Neverwell Moor, Ye Old Adventure Shop, Volley Zombie, Sorcerer's Garden, and Castle Defense.

The reviewer plans to try out all 48 of the Liberated Pixel Cup games. The reviews are written by Juan Rodriguez, a Fedora contributor that's also working on the Liberated Pixel Cup with his "Unsealed: Whispers of Wisdom" game.

For those unfamiliar with this game development competition, see the LPC game web-site and the original press release.
