AMD Open64 4.5.2 Supports Piledriver, Other Features

AMD quietly released an update to their preferred compiler, Open64, last week. The AMD Open64 4.5.2 compiler supports their next-generation "Piledriver" Fusion APUs.

The open-source AMD Open64 4.5.2 compiler was released on 8 August and features:

- Support for AMD Opteron Family 15h processor ("Piledriver" core)
- 64 bit build of Open64 compiler
- Further incremental improvements to advanced vectorization capability
- Support for common AVX, XOP, FMA3, FMA4, BMI, TBM, F16C intrinsic
- Improved performance and functionality of LNO optimization
- Further improvements to optimizer and code generation
- Merged sources from Open64.net community trunk
- Extended platform support, including SLES 11 sp2, RHEL 6.3

A few days back AMD released their first entry-level graphics workstation APUs, the FirePro A300 and FirePro A320, which are built upon their Piledriver micro-architecture.

This C99/C++98/Fortran77/Fortran90/Fortran95 compiler has packages available for SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 (SLES 11), Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 (RHEL 6), SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 SP2/SP3, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.5, and a generic source-code package for Linux.

Meanwhile the latest version of the open-source Open64 compiler from Open64.net is Open64 5.0 from last November. New benchmarks of the AMD Open64 compiler flavor will come on Phoronix in the near future.

AMD Open64 4.5.2 can be downloaded from the AMD Developer Central.
